Access to reliable energy changes life for the better, but far too many people around the globe lack consistent energy access. In just over a week, 11 cities working to build energy resilience will gather for the 𝗨𝗿𝗯𝗮𝗻 𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗫𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 in Cape Town. Though they are at different stages in their resilience journeys, our Urban Power cities are innovating to overcome common challenges and seize opportunities to expand access to clean, reliable energy. Through its resilience-focused energy initiatives, Cape Town is an inspiring example for others. From the city’s pivotal campaign to stave off the Day Zero drought to its efforts to end energy poverty, Cape Town consistently brings a unique perspective to the network given its rich history as well as the diverse shocks and stresses the city faces. Follow along for more Urban Power updates during the PowerXChange, August 5-7. https://lnkd.in/dfxb-29Q City of Cape Town | Prefeitura do Rio de Janeiro | Alcaldía de Cali | Gemeente Den Haag | Monterrey | Lagos State Resilience Office (LASRO) | Arup | S&P Global | The Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) | GreenCape

The network must be complimented for acknowledging that energy poverty as the one of the most important driver of economic poverty. The differences of rich countries in e ergy accessibility, as compared to that of developing countries of global south, and more specifically the poor within such countries is around 100 to 1000 times. Therefore making available the minimum level of energy, for a existential necessity and growth convergence, should be a collective endeavour. The specifics of how to ensure the mode , technology, finance should be deliberated

Kudos to all the participating cities for their commitment to building energy resilience and ensuring a sustainable future for all💙 #LetsChangeEnergy
