Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are the leading cause of death worldwide, yet their integration into Universal Health Coverage (UHC) frameworks remains critically deprioritized. With 85% of premature deaths due to NCDs happening in LMICs, this oversight threatens health systems, equity, and the very foundation of UHC. Our latest op-ed dives deep into how sustainable financing and cross-sector partnerships are revolutionizing access to NCD care. Initiatives like the Financing Accelerator Network (FAN) are empowering governments with innovative funding models and technical support to meet the challenges head-on. As the world prepares for the 2025 UN High-Level Meeting on NCDs, this is the time to push for transformative action. 🔗 Explore the full op-ed by Herb Riband from Access Accelerated to learn how multisectoral collaboration can advance both NCD outcomes and UHC goals: https://lnkd.in/geWyarMN

#eu According to a seminal article just published in 𝗝𝗮𝗻𝘂𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 in The Lancet Group, global NCD targets are being MASSIVELY MISSED. After a decade of global efforts, working with an agreed 𝟮𝟱% target, the improvement in preventing early deaths from major NCDs is just 𝟭.𝟱%! 👉 Yes, you read that right - ONE POINT FIVE PERCENT. These diseases are responsible for 80% of all years lived with disability before the age of 70! A whopping 86% of all premature deaths from these diseases are happening in low and middle-income countries. This century presents an unparalleled opportunity to prioritise NCDs at the heart of all new policy developments globally. We call for a new global agreement to put 𝗛𝗘𝗔𝗟𝗧𝗛 𝗙𝗜𝗥𝗦𝗧 in all new legislation. This will result in enormous financial, social and human benefit going forward. The Lancet Group’s article outlines how $ 90 billion invested over 5 years 2025-2023 will bring a return of investment of $ 𝟰.𝟳 𝗧𝗥𝗜𝗟𝗟𝗜𝗢𝗡. We have a moral - as well as a financial obligation - to take resolute action on the NCD issue now. In 2025, Denmark, Poland and Cyprus take over the EU presidency. This is a unique chance to focus on NCDs Read the article in The Lancet Group: https://lnkd.in/dUu3dGv6 Learn more about NCDs at the World Health Organization: https://lnkd.in/dB3Bi3Pw

Within the context of a polycrisis, the current global discourse related to evidence-based healthcare is being shaped by a recognition that we need greater intersectoral action ‘beyond health’. For truly global transformative change to occur, we need collective wisdom and collective action in the form of large-scale, strategic collaboration, including actors from across the evidence ecosystem to co-create solutions. The World EBHC Day 2024 Campaign, ‘Health and Beyond: From Evidence to Action’, encourages the global evidence community to share their insights, experiences, challenges, innovations, lessons learned, and promising failures in using evidence-based approaches to take action for health and beyond to build better evidence support systems in a polycrisis. As the 2025 UN High-Level Meeting on #NCDs and #mentalhealth draws closer, we have a window of opportunity to take meaningful action. Every two seconds, a person under 70 dies from a NCD, a reminder that that we must work together to break down silos, mobilize resources, and leverage each other’s strengths. In a recent IFPMA blog, Loren Becker from Eli Lilly and Company—an Access Accelerated member company—emphasizes the importance of partnerships among governments, donors, and the private sector to remove barriers to NCD care. 📖 Read more below.
To respond to the 17 million premature deaths we see from non-communicable diseases every year, many of which are in low- and middle-income countries, we must collectively demonstrate how collaboration works to serve people’s on-the-ground needs. IFPMA member companies are dedicated to going beyond the medicines we discover, develop, and produce to address complex access barriers so that people everywhere receive the care they need. For this year’s Global Week for Action on #NCDs, Loren Becker, Co-Chair, Health Progress Working Group, IFPMA and Senior Director, Global Health Policy, Eli Lilly and Company outlines the member companies’ commitment to #LeadonNCDs by breaking down silos to mobilize investment, accelerate implementation, and deliver accountability. The EUVECA project supports the #sustainability of Europe's #healthcare by providing professionals with future-oriented skills to address some of the sector challenges, one being the #ageing population. 👵👴 Between 2015 and 2080, the proportion of the world's population aged 60 and over is expected to increase in almost every country in the world. 📈 According to the World Health Organization, the number of people aged 60 and over exceed the number of children under the age of 5. As people age, they are more likely to experience multiple conditions at the same time. These include hearing loss, cataracts, refractive errors, back and neck pain, osteoarthritis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, diabetes, depression, and dementia. 🩺 EUVECA recognises the importance of educating and training #health and social care professionals with 21st century skills to effectively meet the challenges of a rapidly growing and ageing population. 🎯 Learn more about the project and subscribe to the newsletter: https://bit.ly/4cDtHzT Det Syddanske EU-Kontor Digital Health & Care Innovation Centre empirica Communication and Technology Research EHTEL - Collaborating for Digital Health and Care in Europe Health First Europe MedTech Europe Porto4Ageing

I recently attended the Gatefield Health Summit by Gatefield, an incredible annual gathering for public health leaders and experts. This year’s focus was on the rising epidemic of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), which cause 74% of global deaths, particularly in low- and middle-income countries where people often die from Non Communicable Diseases (NCDs) before turning 65. One of the most compelling discussions was around how fiscal policies by Saied Tafida Sulaiman (Africa Regional Coordinator, United Nations Development Programme) can curb unhealthy behaviors while promoting healthier choices. Also the connection between the health index of a nation’s workforce and its GDP fascinating—proving just how vital health is to economic growth. A standout session for me was on "PHC Systems as a Frontier for NCD Prevention," moderated by Omei Bongos-Ikwue and featuring experts like Gafar Alawode (DGI Consults), Dr.Nonso Nwaokorie (Solina Center for International Development), Azuka Okeke, Biobele Daviana Davidson M.D. (Strengthening Health Systems Lead, Budgit), Shirley Ewang (Advocacy Lead, Gatefield). It highlighted the crucial role primary healthcare can play in preventing NCDs, something I’m passionate about. What truly resonated with me were the creative visuals and storytelling used to discuss obesity and sugar intake. I also had some engaging conversations with some of the Gatefield team about potential collaborations with Orodata Science. Cheers to exploring ways to merge our expertise in data-driven insights and advocacy work—exciting things ahead! #GatefieldHealthSummit #Beyond65 #NCDs #PublicHealth #OrodataScience #Collaboration #HealthInnovation #DataForImpact #PHC

Every person with CF deserves access to timely diagnosis, quality care, and community support. In this video, Dr. Jennifer Taylor-Cousar explains how health inequity has contributed to disparities for people of color with CF, including delayed diagnosis, decreased access to treatments and care, and more frequent hospitalizations. Tanisha Cunningham, an adult with CF and parent of a child with the disease, openly shares her personal experience and how she advocated for her son’s diagnosis. We are working to integrate health equity into everything we do to achieve our mission of finding a cure for #cysticfibrosis and providing all people with CF the opportunity to live long, fulfilling lives. https://lnkd.in/gGdeNnrS

Complex challenges demand collaborative solutions. That’s why NALA’s Multisectoral Coordination (MSC) project brings diverse sectors — health, education, water, and more—together to tackle the root causes of diseases like schistosomiasis. By engaging government institutions and aligning efforts across multiple sectors, we work towards creating sustainable solutions that address systemic challenges. Together, we strengthen health systems, prevent resource duplication, and build a foundation for long-term disease elimination.
