How much does the US spend on Space Force? The United States Space Force (USSF), the first new military branch since 1947, was created to safeguard America’s interests in space amid evolving global threats. Established in 2019, Space Force’s mission includes protecting US military and economic assets in space and deterring aggression beyond Earth’s atmosphere. Since its inception, the Space Force’s budget has grown significantly. In 2020, $40 million was allocated to set up operations. By 2021, the funding had risen to $15.4 billion as the branch became fully operational. Fast forward to 2024, and the budget has nearly doubled to $26.3 billion, with a focus on research, development, and strengthening satellite defense systems. With nations like China and Russia identified as potential threats, the Space Force is rapidly developing resilient satellite constellations, networks, and data links to ensure the US remains a dominant force in space. #SpaceForce #DefenseSpending #SpaceSecurity #USMilitary #SpaceExploration #NationalSecurity

Many alternatives to making the existing GPS Constellation Signals more resilient are being considered but maybe using the other GNSS signals already out there (i.e. Galileo) to fill in the potential GPS gaps may be more cost-effective. https://lnkd.in/eVjHC5Gx
The United States Space Force announced Sierra Space’s selection this week to produce design concepts for its Resilient Global Positioning System (R-GPS) program. This initiative aims to enhance the GPS by exploring cost-effective, small satellite designs that improve resilience against emerging threats. We look forward to potentially contributing to this critical mission and advancing capabilities for both military and civil applications, with potential launches by 2028. The United States Space Force, established in December 2019 as an independent branch of the U.S. military, plays a critical role in ensuring America's superiority in #Space. Its primary mission is to #organize, #train, and #equip space forces to protect U.S. and allied #interests in space while providing space capabilities to the #JointForce This includes protecting vital space-based infrastructure such as #satellites that are essential for global #communication, #navigation, and #intelligence. The USSF also focuses on enhancing #SpaceDomainAwareness, ensuring the #FreedomOfOperations in space, and deterring potential adversaries from using space assets for hostile purposes. In the context of the #GreatPowerCompetition, where rivals such as #China and #Russia are rapidly #developing their #SpaceCapabilities, the Space Force serves as a #ForceMultiplier by bolstering the U.S. military’s ability to conduct #MultiDomainOperations. Space is the new #HighGround, and controlling it provides an asymmetric advantage. The USSF's focus on space-based command, control, communications, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (#C4ISR) allows the U.S. and its allies to act faster and more decisively across all domains. With the growing #MilitarizationOfSpace, the Space Force is critical to maintaining a strategic edge, deterring conflict, and ensuring that the U.S. stays ahead in this evolving battleground. https://lnkd.in/gkZ8v--v #USSpaceForce #SpaceSuperiority #GreatPowerCompetition #SpaceDomainAwareness #ForceMultiplier #SpaceWarfare #SpaceSecurity #C4ISR #SpaceOperations #NationalSecurity #SpaceInnovation #SpaceDeterrence #MilitarySpace #SpaceTechnology #SatelliteDefense #StrategicAdvantage #SpaceForceMission #SpaceLeadership #FutureOfWarfare #GlobalSecurity #SpacePower #DefenseInnovation #SpaceResilience #SpaceReadiness #ProtectAndDefend #SpaceDominance #SpaceForce

Space threats, NORAD upgrade may spur new private defense spending in Canada - @space.com "Canada, like the U.S., is looking to private industry to beef up its space security and military satellites....Canadian government officials know that radar coverage in the nation thins out considerably in the far north, as well as out past the coasts. So the country's defense department is working on implementing new technologies to increase coverage...." ALL EYES UP! Space is our moral (and mortal) responsibility. Safe Passage is a solved problem set. It is a known known. Unfortunately, it is understood to only a select few, unclear to many, and unknown to most. Misunderstanding is causing missed opportunities. WE cannot afford a miscalculation. Space is every joint warfighter’s AOR. Beyond integrating space products, utilities, and services as key strategic advantages for national security, it is time to broadly institutionalize defensive and offensive space operations and effects as acknowledged traditional military activities for national defense. From Competition to Crisis to Conflict: WE must ensure delivery of Spacepower effects to the Joint Force, the Nation, and our Allies through Gray Zone asymmetries … WE must protect and defend Spacepower projection assets through Dynamic Space Operations … and WE must prevail over any Space-enabled attack against the Joint Force through resilient Tactically Responsive Space options. Set conditions, Secure the frontline, Shape the future. WE must always be able to Advance – Adapt – Augment for assured astro access and action. A skill-web will unweave their kill-web. This is how WE stratify the Stratosphere. Japan: US Space Force Expands Presence in Japan The US Space Force has expanded its presence in Japan with the establishment of a new unit at Yokota Air Base in Tokyo on December 4, 2024, aiming to bolster space defense capabilities and enhance bilateral deterrence with Japan. Brigadier General Anthony Mastalir underscored the unit's critical role in countering threats from North Korea, Russia, and China by improving collaboration on national security. The unit's primary mission is to advance Japan's space surveillance and missile warning systems, ensuring effective cooperation with Japan's Air Self-Defense Force to strengthen deterrence and safeguard allied forces in the region. A key aspect of this development is the integration of US and Japanese geographic positioning satellites to collect data and share intelligence, as confirmed by Japanese Defense Minister Gen Nakatani and US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin. This initiative follows the activation of US Space Forces Korea in December 2022, a strategic response to North Korean military threats. The new unit at Yokota Air Base is intended to enhance cooperation in monitoring North Korean missile activities and China's escalating space pursuits. Brigadier General Mastalir emphasized the growing significance of space in modern warfare and defense strategies. Previously, US Space Forces Indo-Pacific was established in Hawaii in November 2022, and a US Space Command in South Korea was also initiated during that year. The command in Japan is designed to enhance outer space surveillance collaboration with Japanese and South Korean forces, reflecting Japan's expanding space capabilities. This development represents a crucial step in building a robust space defense strategy. The command center at Yokota, although staffed by approximately 10 members with no immediate radar deployments planned, focuses on fortifying existing US military collaboration in Japan. #Shifting Geopolitical Alliances Read more at Security Asia on Substack: https://lnkd.in/dMvai_q8
