Many alternatives to making the existing GPS Constellation Signals more resilient are being considered but maybe using the other GNSS signals already out there (i.e. Galileo) to fill in the potential GPS gaps may be more cost-effective. https://lnkd.in/eVjHC5Gx

The United States Space Force, established in December 2019 as an independent branch of the U.S. military, plays a critical role in ensuring America's superiority in #Space. Its primary mission is to #organize, #train, and #equip space forces to protect U.S. and allied #interests in space while providing space capabilities to the #JointForce This includes protecting vital space-based infrastructure such as #satellites that are essential for global #communication, #navigation, and #intelligence. The USSF also focuses on enhancing #SpaceDomainAwareness, ensuring the #FreedomOfOperations in space, and deterring potential adversaries from using space assets for hostile purposes. In the context of the #GreatPowerCompetition, where rivals such as #China and #Russia are rapidly #developing their #SpaceCapabilities, the Space Force serves as a #ForceMultiplier by bolstering the U.S. military’s ability to conduct #MultiDomainOperations. Space is the new #HighGround, and controlling it provides an asymmetric advantage. The USSF's focus on space-based command, control, communications, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (#C4ISR) allows the U.S. and its allies to act faster and more decisively across all domains. Japan: US Space Force Expands Presence in Japan The US Space Force has expanded its presence in Japan with the establishment of a new unit at Yokota Air Base in Tokyo on December 4, 2024, aiming to bolster space defense capabilities and enhance bilateral deterrence with Japan. Brigadier General Anthony Mastalir underscored the unit's critical role in countering threats from North Korea, Russia, and China by improving collaboration on national security. The unit's primary mission is to advance Japan's space surveillance and missile warning systems, ensuring effective cooperation with Japan's Air Self-Defense Force to strengthen deterrence and safeguard allied forces in the region. A key aspect of this development is the integration of US and Japanese geographic positioning satellites to collect data and share intelligence, as confirmed by Japanese Defense Minister Gen Nakatani and US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin. This initiative follows the activation of US Space Forces Korea in December 2022, a strategic response to North Korean military threats. The new unit at Yokota Air Base is intended to enhance cooperation in monitoring North Korean missile activities and China's escalating space pursuits. Brigadier General Mastalir emphasized the growing significance of space in modern warfare and defense strategies. Previously, US Space Forces Indo-Pacific was established in Hawaii in November 2022, and a US Space Command in South Korea was also initiated during that year. The command in Japan is designed to enhance outer space surveillance collaboration with Japanese and South Korean forces, reflecting Japan's expanding space capabilities. This development represents a crucial step in building a robust space defense strategy.
