As we approach the end of the year, it's a perfect time to reflect on the past and prepare for the opportunities ahead. For colleges and universities, the start of a new year is not just about setting internal goals, but also about connecting with the next generation of students and their families. As both a marketing professional in higher education and a proud mom of a college student, I’ve seen firsthand how critical it is for schools to make a lasting impression on prospective students—and their parents—during the college search journey. It’s a time of big decisions and even bigger dreams. In this ever-evolving landscape, schools must prioritize clear, compelling marketing strategies that highlight what makes their institution the perfect fit for students seeking an education that’s not just about earning a degree, but about building a future. Now is the time to get ahead of 2025 by crafting messages that resonate, building relationships with prospective families, and ensuring your institution stands out. Whether it's through engaging digital content, virtual tours, or personalized outreach, the goal is the same: show students and parents that your school is the place where dreams are made and futures are forged. As we close out this year, let’s focus on not just wrapping up the current chapter, but preparing for the next—helping students and families take the next step toward a bright future. #HigherEdMarketing #CollegeAdmissions #FutureStudents #2025Preparation #MarketingStrategy #CollegeSearchJourney

Dean: "We need to attract more students this year!" Me: "That’s fantastic. What’s our strategy? Have we streamlined the application process?" Dean: "Not yet." Me: "Okay, what about outreach? Any digital campaigns, student ambassadors, or partnerships in place?" Dean: "Not yet, but we’re working on it." Me: "Hmmm, have we nailed down our enrollment goals or optimized financial aid communications?" Dean: "Not exactly, but we’ll figure it out." Me: "Alright, and when do we want to see results?" Dean: "Immediately. Obviously. This is critical." The recent matriculation results have shown a concerning decline in performance. This trend may be linked to the increasing influence of social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok. While these platforms offer opportunities for connection and entertainment, they can also be major distractions for students. The constant allure of social media can lead to reduced study time, diminished concentration, and ultimately, lower academic achievement. It’s important for students to manage their time wisely, prioritizing their studies while finding a healthy balance with their digital activities. Addressing this issue is crucial to improving future academic outcomes

This article raises the point that marketing to a new segment is not enough. You need to make sure your organization and product are set up to support that segment. In this example, colleges expanding marketing to adult learners need to ensure they are supporting adults who have much different needs than students coming out of high school. They are making choices between college, work, and family. They need flexibility in time to complete and creative solutions for accepting work experience as credits. It's not just about getting them in the seat. The institution as a whole needs to support adults to finish. https://lnkd.in/gt5QPxrf
