Introducing the Spirit Animals Of Motley, a fun game brought to us by Ankita Joshi from Keep It Hygge. Each of us stepped aside while the team picked an animal representing our best qualities. Here are 3 good things about this activity that contributed to #HappinessAtMotley this month: 1. Positive Focus: It encouraged focusing on the positive qualities of each team member. Highlighting strengths boosts self-confidence and creates a more appreciative work environment. 2. Team Bonding: The act of collaboratively choosing a spirit animal for each person involved a lot of discussion and shared observations. This helps colleagues learn more about each other and build stronger bonds. 3. Fun and Playful: The lighthearted nature of the activity injected some fun into the workday. Laughter and a sense of play are for sure a powerful stress relievers and contributes to a more positive work atmosphere. Try it with your team and tag us. Stay tuned for more fun activities! #SpiritAnimals #Motley #MoteyCrew #TeamActivity #Celebration #Party

The photo shows a fast race between dogs and a cheetah, the goal was to see who was the fastest. Everyone was surprised that the cheetah did not budge from its place. We asked the race coordinator what happened. After seeing this picture, he replied: Sometimes trying to prove that you are the best is an insult. We do not need to go down to the level of others, to show our strength. Think carefully and save your energy for what you deserve... The cheetah uses its speed only to hunt, not to prove to the dogs that it is the fastest and strongest." I came across this insightful message that really resonates with our lives today. It conveys the idea that it's unnecessary to constantly prove our superiority to others. Just like the cheetah, we should focus our energy on pursuits that truly matter to us, rather than getting caught up in unnecessary competitions or comparisons with others. In today's world, where social media and instant gratification often fuel the need for validation and comparison, it's crucial for us to prioritize our own goals and values. Let's use our abilities for meaningful purposes and avoid seeking constant external validation or trying to outshine others. Remember, our worth isn't defined by how we measure up to others. So, let's be kind to ourselves, pursue our passions, and shine in our own unique way. You're doing great just being you! Take care,

160 days into my new role as Director of Sierra Club Virginia Chapter! With Session looming, I wanted to share some of the takeaways I wrote down for myself. 1) Slow down - I've started telling myself this every time I get a text, call, or email. I used to make it my goal to rocket through everything. I'm learning a lot by not. 2) Keep the sense of humor - I've found that people I work with really appreciate the ability to knock the seriousness down a peg, yes, we are doing challenging stuff, and the work is hard and complex, but sometimes things are funny! Keep the joy going. 3) We won't be perfect - After I recently remarked: "Well, this is far from perfect!" one of my colleagues said to me on their way out of my office "What's perfect anyway?" Food for thought. I wrote it down. 4) Prioritize people - Something I have noticed, stemming from slowing down, is the appreciation people feel for being asked how they're doing, sharing a life update; something funny, something sad, something scary. I appreciate the trust people place in me to share it. Maybe these are simple, but over the last 160 days of trying to learn to lead in this new and different role, these have been my starting points. With deep appreciation for our team, our leadership, and a renewed focus on our mission to explore, enjoy, and protect the outdoors, on to the next 160 days!
