🤔Those who are thriving vs those who are barely surviving - what is the difference? - Part 2 Last week, I started detailing what recruitment businesses and recruitment business leaders who are doing well, are doing differently in the current market. This was sparked by the recent Firefish Software JobFlow Index, which showed a surprising trend: While job registrations are down, placements are up. So, here’s part two of three; part one is linked in the comments for those who are curious! 4) They efficiently manage their job-fulfillment activity Time is your most valuable asset. By efficiently managing your job-fulfillment activity; constantly reprioritising, providing timely feedback; you too can free up valuable time for business development activities that fuel your growth. 5) They’re not afraid to walk away from bad clients Not all clients are created equal. Some expect a "beauty parade" of endless candidates without a clear vision. Others resist a structured process or a defined requirement. Some simply will not take evidence-based advice. If you’ve tried consultative selling without any luck, see the attached image for what you should do… 6) They stick to their guns but are creative fee negotiators. Great negotiators don't just cave or "split the difference" in fee disputes: they use questioning and trade lots of variables to come up with a solution that protects outcomes AND the relationship. They make themselves and their team available to interview candidates. They provide timely feedback and updates. Communication is CONSISTENT! 🏃♀️🏃♂️If you constantly have to chase down your client time and time again either to schedule interviews or get feedback you are WASTING both your time and your candidate's time. 🗣️Clients who are DECISIVE and deliver on what they say are the ones you want to work with. Building rapport with clients is crucial, but that's not enough. I had a conversation with a CFO earlier this week, and he shared that his company has relied on the same recruitment firm for years. They’ve built a solid relationship with them. The problem? They aren't delivering the caliber of candidates they need. Despite the strong ties, he decided to give us a chance instead. 6 QUESTIONS TO ANSWER IF YOUR GOAL IS TO MAKE PARTNER It’s time to get strategic & solidify your plan. Otherwise you may miss your chance to align yourself for partner success… These pivotal years can make or break your next big step in your career. During this time, you may start considering in-house positions or you decide to take a run for partner at your current firm (or a different one). Either way, this is the time to really reflect on your experience & plan for the future. If you’re going to take a run for partner, look around and take stock of how many partners your firm has named recently. 1. What does your class year look like? 2. Who is ahead of you & behind you? 3. What value are you bringing to the table? 4. Is there a business case for your firm to make a partner? (If not, you should look around & find a platform that would set you up for success.) 5. What are your best relationships? 6. Can you utilize the relationships at your current firm? If you do this inventory you’ll recognize whether your current firm can provide the opportunity to make partner. I encourage candidates to think about where they see themselves in 5, 10 & 20 years. My experience as a recruiter enables me to see the big picture. I’m able to analyze your experience & map out your options.
