On Saturday we welcomed Gordon Pettitt, former General Manager of British Rail's Southern Region, and his family to London Waterloo for a very special occasion. Gordon took a surprise trip on the Bluebell Railway and Southern Electric Traction Group's (SETG) preserved Class 423 'VEP' unit. The train, number 3417, has been named 'Gordon Pettitt' in recognition of his many years of service to the railway, which includes his role as President of the Bluebell Railway. It has been a year since IOR's Lytton Terminal was officially opened. This site underwent a significant transformation, transitioning from a crude oil facility to an import facility. The primary objectives behind this conversion were to enhance loading efficiency and ensure fuel security for Queensland. Internally, the site was repurposed by converting a 50 million-litre crude oil storage tank into a diesel clean product storage facility. An additional 20 million-litre tank and a 40 million-litre tank was added, resulting in a total site capacity of 110 million litres. Furthermore, the newly constructed 4-bay gantry has the capability to load B-doubles, with future provisions for loading AB-triples—an infrastructure feature unique to Queensland. Working closely with iOR, icubed consulting provided Design Management, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Environmental and Risk Assessment, Hazard Reporting, and Mechanical Engineering for the new site operations.
