Owner of Jordan Holva Coaching | Advocate for Women & Communities | Balancing Family & Career | Marine Veteran & Military Spouse
Take Up Space --- In this picture is a detachment officer in charge, a doctor, a pilot, and an intelligence officer. This 2015 throwback will always make me smile because these women were and still are some of the boldest women I know who continue to step out and take.up.space. When I commissioned in the United States Marine Corps only 6% of all officers were women, but almost 11 years later that has increased to almost 16%! I am not unfamiliar with being in male dominated spaces and I have been fortunate to have some amazing mentors both men and women. This is why I am so excited about The Million Women in Construction Initiative and the groundbreaking effort aimed at integrating women into the construction industry, not just on the ground but in leadership roles as well. This initiative mirrors efforts in the military where the data shows a deliberate shift towards greater diversity and inclusion efforts pay off. As we celebrate progress across various sectors, it's crucial to highlight the significant strides women are making in traditionally male-dominated fields like construction and the military. Both sectors are critical to our nation's infrastructure and defense, and the increased participation of women only strengthens our collective capabilities. The construction industry, with its vast impact on our economy and daily lives, is now recognizing the immense value that a diverse workforce brings. Similarly, the military has been actively working to ensure that the contributions of women are not only recognized but also expanded. This alignment in values and goals between two such pivotal sectors is not just encouraging; it's a blueprint for other industries to follow. It’s a testament to how diversity, especially gender diversity, enriches our professional and communal landscapes. What an event I attended!!!!! Recently, I had the privilege of participating in a truly inspiring conversation at Wells Fargo about the experiences of women in the military and military spouses. It was an eye-opening session with Valerie Nelson and Kristen Howden. Who delved into the invaluable support systems and the remarkable stories of resilience and strength. One aspect that stood out was the empowerment of women in traditionally male-dominated environments. Kristen shared how being a woman in the military compelled her to be more vocal and assertive, especially in settings where she was surrounded by men. Her journey highlighted the importance of representation and the power of diverse voices in shaping perspectives. Moreover, hearing from Valerie a spouse was truly fascinating. Her vacations aren’t planned and finding friends was hard. She is an executive assistant by day but her most fulfilling job is taking care of her household while her husband was deployed. Above all, this conversation reinforced the importance of being allies with the military community. Whether it's providing support for service members or recognizing the unique challenges faced by military spouses, it's crucial that we stand together in solidarity. Let's continue to celebrate the contributions of women in the military, honor the sacrifices of military families, and strive to be unwavering allies in their journey. Together, we can create a more inclusive and supportive environment for all. 💪🇺🇸 #WomenInTheMilitary #MilitarySpouses #SupportOurTroops #Allyship #WellsFargo #WomenInBanking #DEI #Business #WomenInTechnology #LinkedIn #LinkedInCreator
