As administrators and healthcare assistants, it's crucial for us to delve deeply into the intricate complexities surrounding elder abuse. This involves understanding the various forms it can take, from physical and emotional mistreatment to financial exploitation and neglect. By comprehending the multifaceted nature of elder abuse, we can better identify the signs and symptoms, intervene effectively, and provide appropriate support and care to those affected. Furthermore, it's essential to acknowledge the heightened vulnerability and specific needs of the elderly population. Aging often comes with physical frailty, cognitive decline, and increased dependency on others for assistance and care. In light of these factors, we must adopt a compassionate and empathetic approach in our interactions with older adults, ensuring their safety, well-being, and dignity are upheld at all times. In a just and equitable society, every individual, regardless of age, deserves to live free from harm and exploitation. By advocating for the rights and protection of our elderly community members, we contribute to the creation of a more inclusive and compassionate society where everyone can age with dignity and respect.

There can be no greater threat to a peaceful, democratic political process than violence committed in the name of democracy. At the National League for Nursing, we condemn in no uncertain terms all efforts to undermine the right to vote, the right to peacefully assemble and protest, and the right to free speech. As staunch and vocal advocates of public health, we mourn the tragic loss of life and renew our calls to find ways to end gun violence and invest more resources in mental health services and access to equitable, affordable care. We will also continue to strive to end extreme divisions among us and co-create a culture of equity, integrity and caring that celebrates our diversity and embraces our common humanity. “How to Get Your Affairs in Order” – Online – Thursday, March 14, 2024 (2 pm – 3:30 pm central time) This program will provide suggestions for when a doctor says it’s time to “get your affairs in order.” We will examine a checklist for the dying and how many of the items on such a checklist can be done years before a diagnosis. Upon completion of this program, the participant will be able to: ∙ Understand how planning for the end of life leads to a better death someday and a better life right now. ∙ Recognize the importance of making plans, writing them down, and sharing them with others. ∙ Identify actions that reduce fears and anxiety. ∙ Recognize the ways that death doulas, care teams, elder care attorneys, and loved ones help support people at the end of life. The link will be emailed to you before the session. This is available for 1.5 CEUs through the Continuing Education Institute of Illinois. I’d also welcome caregivers, patients, and curious participants. Please join us! Each session also includes an “Ask a Doula” Q&A at the end where I’ll answer all your questions.
