Christmas is a brilliant time of year, but it’s easy to get swept up in the chaos of gifts, parties, and celebrations. For me, the festive season is a valuable time to give back.
This time of year can be particularly tough for some, so I’ve been reflecting on ways to help others and spread a little extra cheer:
🔴 Donate to a food bank: Whether it’s canned goods or essentials like toiletries, food banks do amazing work. FreshFood4Families is a great example of a local group making a real difference here in Yorkshire.
🔴 Give the gift of time: Volunteering, whether it’s at a shelter or wrapping gifts for charity, has a special way of reminding us what the season is really about.
🔴 Check in on loved ones and neighbours: A quick phone call or visit could mean the world to someone feeling isolated this Christmas.
🔴 Donate or support a cause you care about: Whether it’s a toy drive for children or sponsoring a family in need, every small act counts.
It doesn’t have to be big to make a difference. Even the smallest gesture can bring a little light to someone’s life this Christmas.

✨ Call to Action: Please bring food donations or cash. All contributions will support Kelowna's Gospel Mission.
Here’s a story that highlights why we are the charity of choice for Fortune Creek:
"I heard a story once that described the difference between Heaven and Hell:
In Hell there was a huge table, on it was every food imaginable, and you were allowed to eat whatever you wanted, they only rule was you could not eat with your hands. People around Hells table were sad and hungry because the utensils they were forced to use we so large they could not hold it in their hands and feed themselves. So they starved.
In Heaven they had the same huge table, with the same food, and the same large utensils. Similarly, you were allowed to eat whatever you wanted, provided you did not eat with your hands. But unlike Hell, they were laughing and smiling with full bellies of amazing food. How? Because rather than feed themselves, they fed each other. That’s why the utensils were so large to begin with and because they took care of each other’s needs, they flourished.
The reason why we chose KGM is we believe community challenges require community solutions. The KGM is one the best initiatives to help support our growing and changing community’s needs. "
Bring your family and friends for a wonderful time! We look forward to seeing you there!

🎄 The Christmas season is all about giving, connecting, and spreading joy—but how can you share the magic of the holidays? ✨
1 Donate or volunteer: Reflect on your blessings, like a home or a meal. Many in Memphis aren’t as fortunate—consider donating or volunteering to help.
2 Share a Smile: It costs nothing but can mean everything. A genuine smile can uplift someone’s spirits, whether it’s the cashier ringing up your groceries or a stranger passing by in a crowded store.
3 Pay for Someone’s Coffee or Meal: Surprise the person behind you in the drive-thru by covering their order. It’s a simple gesture that can turn someone’s stressful day around.
4 Write a Thank-You Note: A heartfelt message to a friend, coworker, or even a delivery driver can go a long way in making them feel appreciated.
5 Surprise a Neighbor with Treats: Bake cookies or put together a small gift basket for your neighbors. It’s a thoughtful way to strengthen community bonds during the holidays.

What does your business do for staff at Christmas - apart from the boozy Christmas party? 🎄🍷
How about doing something special for their children this year?
We can help!
At Caring Cooks, we’re offering personalised Santa letters delivered straight to children, grandchildren, or loved ones.
All we ask is a small donation from you as the employer to support our Food or Fuel Campaign, which provides vital help to families in need this Christmas. It’s kindness for your staff and the wider community - a win-win!
Here’s how it works:
🎅 Send an email to your team (we can even provide the wording for you).
🎅 Your staff fill out a quick, automated form (takes 2 minutes).
🎅 We take care of the rest, and the magic arrives in the post!
It’s an easy way to spread Christmas cheer, show your team you care, and earn major brownie points as an employer - all without adding to your workload or stretching resources.
If this sounds like something your business would love to do, please reach out to me or visit: https://lnkd.in/etvcfMPY.
Let’s bring a little joy this Christmas - booze optional! 😉

I used to be the most grinchiest grinch ever - what happened? 😂
As an immigrant, Christmas is tough.
With my family 5,000 miles away, I would feel like a Mexican-American fish out of water with all the unfamiliar traditions and songs.
I refused to be happy, because to me Christmas was a time of mourning, a reminder that while everyone else was celebrating with their families (even if begrudgingly), I couldn’t have what others took for granted.
So what’s changed - how have I gone from grinch to being OTT in love with Christmas?
I started giving, instead of looking at what I lack.
It changed for me after volunteering with a Christian charity last year, St Vincent de Paul Society (England & Wales)
I’ve never been a fan of the capitalistic side of Christmas, and I have too much clutter. I don’t need any more gifts, I need more meaning, not more stuff.
So on Christmas eve last year, I spent all day with a group of other volunteers, from all faiths and none, as we collected surplus food from supermarkets (that would have otherwise gone to waste) and organised it into gift bags and parcels for hungry families. Sorting in a makeshift gazebo in someone’s front garden, while it was windy and cold and the volunteers shared snacks, hot drinks and stories - then seeing the gratitude on people’s faces when we delivered the food. It was wonderful.
We did the same on New Year's eve. Another day of food collection, sorting and delivery to families in need.
What can I say - I caught the bug.
I’ve been volunteering with them all year, and these people have become like family to me.
Christmas isn’t lonely. Because it’s not about me or what I get. It’s about what we give.
If you’d like to contribute, we are fundraising for our local homeless day centre. They are at risk of having to seriously scale down their services, leaving 1,200 people out in the cold, due to the rising costs and drops in grant funding.
If you could donate, even £5, it would mean the world.

And if you feel a hunger in your heart and want to find out more about volunteering in your local area, feel free to give me a shout and I can share more info.
Much love, and happy happy Christmas, however you celebrate 🎄❤️
Getting caught up in the chaos is easy as the festive season is fully underway. This year, focus on what truly matters with these simple tips:
🎁 Spend Smart
Set a budget and stick to it. Thoughtful, personal gifts mean more than expensive ones, and you’ll thank yourself come January!
💡 Prioritise Experiences
Shared moments—like festive outings, creative workshops, or movie nights—create lasting memories.
👨👩👧👦 Value Time Together
From baking treats to family traditions, you’ll treasure the moments with loved ones the most.
❤️ Give Back
Support local causes or charities. Small acts of kindness, like donating to food banks or community campaigns, can significantly impact.

This year, we’ve donated to the Isle of Man Chamber of Commerce charity campaign instead of sending cards—supporting incredible organisations like Little Piece of Hope, Southern Befrienders, and St Christopher's.

🧁🍰🎂 Let them eat cake 🎂🍰🧁
Gloucestershire colleagues. Can you help? We really, really need you to.
Yesterday, my incredible team and I, along with volunteers from @BraveHCG, picked, packed, collected, carried, sorted, stacked, and stuffed our way through gift sorting and hamper filling for Caring for Communities and People #HamperScamper.
We set a hamper-filling record for this year (so far). 125 hampers packed, sealed, and ready for distribution.
It would have been 150 hampers. What stopped us? Not enough cake!
The incredible thing about #HamperScamper is the generosity of such a wide group of people and businesses. The downside is we’re never quite sure what we’ll have lots of, and what we’ll have little. Right now, it’s everything, but most of all, cakes. Christmas Cakes, Yule Logs, Christmas Puddings. Whatever you want to donate.
The grand total now stands at 500 complete. 2,500 still to source and pack. There are nowhere near enough donations in yet, and every day, every item, counts.
Can you donate?
Everything you need to know (what, where, how?) is here: https://lnkd.in/eBmwHASc
[Video shows the 25 boxes that we’d part-filled, before we ran out of cake]
