As climate disasters become more frequent and intense, the Red Cross is increasing our capacity to help those in need. We are working to strengthen local partner networks in disaster-prone counties where families are already struggling with chronic social issues. Learn how this program is building more resilient communities. #NPM2024

#AYDRESS is not just another project. It is a call to action for youth, a call to raise their voices and lead the way in responding to natural disasters. With this project, we are committed to empowerment on crucial issues such as the environment, combating climate change and mitigating the adverse effects of natural disasters. 👫 🔥 🌊 At our first meeting, we presented the project overview, partner roles, work plan summaries, including the development of educational games and disaster management workshops, dissemination strategies, financial management and upcoming deadlines that we will carry out. Designing for Resilience - why it is essential. For every image of physical, tangible loss depicted in the media – the loss of income sources, homes, and infrastructure. Some losses are less visible or quantifiable, but no less real – the loss of family, community, physical and mental health and wellbeing, sacred sites, and culture. The Climate Justice Resilience Fund supports vulnerable individuals and groups – particularly women, youth, and Indigenous Peoples – to create and share their own solutions for climate resilience. https://bityl.co/M51G

Did you know the UN predicts disaster events will increase by 40% by 2030? This has left many grantmakers wondering how they can be strategic/reactive with their grant programs with such a significant rise in global disasters, so we wrote a guide on that! https://ow.ly/CIQ150QgMNK

Environmental displacement isn't just a humanitarian crisis; it's an economic one too. When communities are uprooted by natural disasters or climate change, the financial impact is profound. From lost livelihoods to strained resources in host regions, the effects ripple far and wide. Let's raise awareness and advocate for policies that support displaced individuals and foster economic resilience. Together, we can build a future where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. 🌍 #ClimateChange #EconomicImpact #EnvironmentalDisplacement #SocialJustice

Why put #disasterdisplacement in development plans: 1. Displacement from disasters is not inevitable 2. People can be displaced for years 3. Those fleeing disasters usually stay close to home 4. Preparing for small events makes a big difference 5. With #climatechange, it can’t wait

To be resilient is to be less vulnerable. Extreme weather will continue, but we can prevent each event from becoming a major disaster. By making our communities less vulnerable and more prepared for what’s to come, it’s possible that severe weather becomes less severe and perhaps more manageable. Our framework for preparedness includes not only infrastructure, but also the critical social connectivity that keeps communities holistically resilient. Successful preparedness requires supporting a community’s culture, understanding what makes it a great place to live, and growing community resources and support structures.

🌀Imagine... Resilient Communities: Pacific Islands Mapping a Safer Tomorrow🌀 💡 Imagined Endstate: A future where every Pacific community is equipped with the tools to understand and reduce their social vulnerability, fostering a safer, more resilient society. 🔗 Link: Pacific Social Vulnerability and Resilience Project 📚 Source: Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry. (2022). CDC/ATSDR Social Vulnerability Index (SVI) 2020 Documentation. Retrieved from CDC/ATSDR SVI Documentation 2020. 💥 What’s the Big Deal: The CDC/ATSDR Social Vulnerability Index (SVI) is a game-changer for disaster preparedness and response, especially for the vulnerable Pacific island communities🌊. The SVI’s detailed analysis of social factors, such as poverty, lack of vehicle access, and crowded housing, can help these communities understand🤝their weaknesses and strengths🛠️ in the face of natural disasters. By incorporating the SVI into local planning, Pacific islands can prioritize resources🏝️, create effective evacuation plans, and build robust support systems for recovery. This is crucial in a region where climate change is intensifying the frequency and severity of hazards like cyclones and floods. The SVI’s role in helping to mitigate human suffering and financial loss is not just significant; it’s potentially life-saving🛡️. It represents a proactive step towards a resilient Pacific🗺️, where communities are not defined by their vulnerabilities but by their capacity to overcome them. #SocialVulnerabilityIndex,#PacificResilience,#DisasterPreparedness, #CommunityStrength,#ClimateAdaptation, #SustainableRecovery,#ResilientPacific,#GlobalSecurity,#GlobalLeadership,#IMSPARK,
