Vice Chair - Largo Planning Board & Boomer Products - Project, Reporting & Data Manager - Views are my own Political Advertisement Approved By and For Matt Faustini For Largo City Commission Seat 2
Articulating the 'why' behind any #candidacy is paramount. The City of #Largo #invested in me, my family, and our #neighborhood, catalyzing transformative #change. As a #lifelong #resident, I've experienced firsthand the impact of proactive community policies, particularly in #housing, #childcare and #communityengagement. My journey in Largo began at one year old, when my #family settled in the back unit of a #duplex in a challenged neighborhood. In 1996, pivotal changes occurred with the establishment of the Lake Palms #Outreach Center, a collaborative effort by the City of Largo #Recreation Department, the Largo #Police Department, and the #Juvenile #Welfare Board. This initiative provided #free #yearround services for youth under 18, offering a #safespace for #community-building, #games, #activities, #sports, #tutoring, field trips and #meals. Simultaneously, #communitypolicing initiatives fostered #trust and connection between law enforcement and residents. These efforts #revitalized our neighborhood, prompting residents to transition from #renters to #homeowners, including my own family. Inspired by dedicated #teachers, familial support, and by Largo's Outreach program, I overcame #academic #challenges to excel academically, culminating in recognition and awards by fifth grade. However, personal losses, including the passing of my grandmother and father and the impact of national tragedies like 9/11 all in 2001, underscored the #resilience and #compassion within our #community, which was #underscored to me by the #actions of those at Lake Palms Outreach Center. Despite adversities like #natural #disasters, such as #Hurricane Francis in 2004, I persevered academically, graduating with honors from Osceola High School and becoming the #first in my family to attend #university. Yet, the escalating #cost of #homeownership in Largo underscores the urgent need for #inclusive #policies that ensure #affordability and #opportunity for all residents. Today, I'm compelled to run for Largo City Commission to #uphold our community's #legacy of #inclusivity and #opportunity. While I can't recreate my #youth, I'm #committed to fostering a Largo that prioritizes #equity, #affordability, and the realization of every resident's #potential, regardless of their #background or #circumstances. As youth experiencing foster care get closer to their 18th birthday, they get closer to aging out. If some type of permanency hasn’t been achieved, the future can be totally uncertain. Without a support system, or a defined opportunity to get a job or continue education, the future is not just uncertain – in many cases, it’s set up to fail and fall into the downstream cycles we’re passionately trying to disrupt. For many, instability has been a constant companion. Some have never known the stability and security that we might take for granted. For 47% of current foster youth, homelessness isn’t an idea. It’s an experience they’ve personally faced with their biological families before being removed. Cut to their 18th birthday, and they find themselves in a position that mirrors the circumstances of their childhood. Here’s the sobering truth: without intervention, the pattern of homelessness may persist, perpetuating the cycle for generations to come. Our programs were developed to break these cycles through mentorship, and radical community. We're empowering youth to claim their futures despite their past. You can take part in this work in a life-changing way. When hundreds of individuals like you come together to invest $10/month, $25/month, $50/month – powerful and sustainable change becomes possible. Generational change becomes possible. You can use your influence to change the statistics. Will you join us today? Senior Vice President, Mastercard l Board Member l World Economic Forum Schwab Foundation Intrapreneur of the Year l 2022 Women in Payments Community Impact Award Recipient
In these ever-changing times, it's important to take care of yourself and find your tribe. Stress and changes, even when positive, can leave us feeling frazzled and unmoor. When this happens, it's important to focus on your well-being. Well-being extends beyond traditional self-care practices like yoga and meditation. True well-being encompasses economic stability, access to essential resources, empowerment, and strong community connections. Today I want to share some valuable resources that focus on these broader aspects of well-being. As I gear up for my #Bellagio residency in September, I want to make sure we are all not just resilient, but well-resourced! The #EconomicMobilityProject initiative by The Pew Charitable Trusts provides research and data to understand economic mobility trends and policies that can foster upward movement. United Way 2-1-1 connects individuals with essential services in their local area, including housing assistance, food programs, and healthcare. The National Council of Nonprofits provides a directory of nonprofits offering various services, from legal aid to educational programs, ensuring everyone can find the support they need. The #SelfEmploymentAssistance (SEA) Program helps unemployed individuals start their own businesses by providing financial support and entrepreneurial training. The ACLU advocates for individual rights and liberties guaranteed by the Constitution, focusing on issues like criminal justice reform, voting rights, and reproductive freedom. Well-being is multi-faceted, and it's essential to address it from various angles to create a supportive, thriving community.

Founder: Al Moten Letter from Our Founder Dear Community Partner, Houston Vital Signs, Inc. (HVSI) is a non-profit organization that has been dedicated to the rejuvenation and rehabilitation of disadvantaged communities in Greater Houston for more than 30 years. Our wide range of programs caters to the social, physical, emotional, clinical, vocational, and self-help needs of both young people and adults who are facing challenges such as poverty, unstable housing, substance abuse, mental health issues, and general health problems. In the United States alone, there are approximately 391,000 children and youths in foster care. Shockingly, 23,000 of them age out of the system every year without finding permanent placement. It’s alarming that 1 in 5 of these individuals end up homeless instantly after leaving foster care and less than 3 earn a college degree in their lifetime. The situation is particularly worrying in Texas where there has been an increase of 1,100 children without placement from 2019 to 2021.

Last year more than 4,000 Americans of all ages and backgrounds united to meet local needs, strengthen communities, and expand opportunity through national service in Utah. AmeriCorps invested more than $15 million in federal funding to support cost-effective community solutions, working hand in hand with local partners to empower individuals to help communities tackle their toughest challenges. AmeriCorps members and AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers are preparing today’s students for tomorrow’s jobs, helping communities and families impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, connecting veterans to services, fighting the opioid epidemic, helping seniors live independently, rebuilding communities after disasters, and leading conservation efforts. AmeriCorps members and AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers served at more than 600 locations across Utah, including schools, food banks, homeless shelters, health clinics, youth centers, veterans facilities, and other nonprofit and faith-based organizations. Through a unique public-private partnership, AmeriCorps and its partners generated more than $3.8 million in outside resources from businesses, foundations, public agencies, and other sources in Utah last year. This local support strengthened community impact and increased the return on taxpayer dollars. #AmeriCorpsWeek #AmeriCorpsUtah

In our 2023 year end report, we highlight powerful stories of the kids and families we've served, share statistics about the current state of child welfare, and lean into hope as we find solutions to tough problems together. What if vulnerable children and families had somewhere else to turn besides an overburdened system? What if instead of being a case number, they were people with names and faces - where someone knew them, their story, and their needs? What if the gaps could be closed between what the system provides and what they need to thrive? This is the power of Community Beyond the System. At Foster Village, we surround every type of family experiencing foster care - foster parents, kinship families, reunifying families, and former foster youth - with a village of support that dismantles isolation and empowers families to break generational cycles for years to come. Read more about how we do this in our YEAR END REPORT. https://lnkd.in/gEJH3-9H
