I was saving my yearly LinkedIn post for my 3 year anniversary in a few weeks, but today’s launch of Brooklyn Storehouse is a far more exciting milestone (first iconic, stateside partnership- watch this space!). Joining Vibration Production in 2021 at the tail end of the pandemic seemed like a crazy risk to anyone looking in at the time (and many told me as much!). Having forged my career in the comfort of big international corporates, moving into event production, heading up a finance function and being tasked with a complete overhaul/creation/imbedding of all processes and a commercially driven team was a big move away from my comfort zone but little did I know, it was going to be much more than that original job description. Best. Move. Of. My. Life. What Broadwick has given/taught me: -Collaboration; not cold hearted competition. -Good Ideas are given a fighting chance. -No one worth knowing is going to take credit for your hard work. -No one is claiming to know it all or have all the answers. -Partners that share our vision fuel us, those that don’t get it, fuel us too! -You need the tiny details to form the bigger picture (always been my mantra but now reinforced daily!). -If you can’t be unapologetically yourself, you’re not in the right place. -Working with people that push and inspire you, will be your greatest education. -And so, so, so much more. Had an awesome experience at Nebraska Furniture Mart today. I was so nervous, this was the first time that I have ever gone to buy furniture for a bedroom since losing my vision. Upon entering the store, security quickly assisted me in finding a sales rep. Once I was paired up, they asked me lots of questions to figure out what type of bedroom I envisioned. I then showed him the room dimensions provided by the apartment so we could ensure everything would fit. The goal was to find a new bed, dresser, and nightstand. It wasn't exactly a quick process, even though the sales rep knew kind of what to show me, I had to go explore each item by touch. If I found something I liked, the rep would give me the price and check if it was in stock or not. After some time, I landed on my bedroom options. Now, the fun part. Trying out matrasses. It only took me about 3 tries to land on the one I wanted to buy. Did some information gathering and the rep processed the payment, scheduled shipping, and printed out a confirmation receipt. This is what inclusion looks like, no judgement, no pain, accessibility from start to finish, patient, no pressuring reps, etc. I believe I had the same experience or at least as close to the same experience as any other customer would have had. Let me tell you, this is one of the rare times I get to say that. This store was located in The Colony, Texas. We don't know about you, but we love a department store. Everything under one roof! A cornucopia of delights! Can you imagine how exciting that must have been when they first started appearing in the mid to late 19th century? Now, however the age of the department store seems to be drawing to a close and subsequently many wonderful, sometimes genuinely historic buildings are at risk (think M&S in Oxford Street). Can they be adapted and reused? It's not easy, but there's a case to be made - and Tim Miles and Bridget Crossley of Montagu Evans have made it on The Planner website today. Meanwhile, with excellent timing, Historic England has launched a nationwide research project to find out more about the history and cultural significance of purpose-built department store buildings. It's challenging to be a retail tenant these days... Vacancy is at 7.9% across #northwestarkansas and it's much lower than that in the "prime retail" pockets - West Bentonville, West Rogers/Pinnacle, and North Fayetteville. If a business needs a drive-thru, there's going to be multiple offers to lease the same space and the owner will be juggling lots of different variables in evaluating which is the right deal.
