SPARTANS AMONG US This last weekend we had 4 of our #Bedminster #team members unite for a Spartan Race! John Paciga and Roger Barlow are no stranger to these events as they always seem to be #training for the next one. Joining our seasoned #veterans in running up the mountain were Maggie Rogers and Kyle O'Neil. John always tells me that his favorite aspect of the race is that you get to #achieve something as a team. There is a #pride he takes in ensuring the #success of others, be it their first race or their fifth race. This #mindset is evident throughout our office. The #willingness to #help lift someone up, to #achieve their #potential and push past what they thought #possible. The view from the top is made even better with the right #company! Had an amazing couple of days spent with many colleagues, from all areas of Crawford & Company at the Birmingham offices. It is always said that: Every day is a School Day and these last couple of days have been just that. So many topics were discussed and trust me, so many words written (my poor hand! 😂), but the end result is New Knowledge. It is not only great for yourself when attending technical days, welcome days and such like but a great opportunity for the business as a whole also. There are many fresh ideas that would otherwise stay unspoken, different ways to approach and achieve and just a general reminder that there’s great knowledge, expertise, experience and help, right at your fingertips, should you need it (let’s be honest, we all need it). Thank you to: Matt Lander for your usual style of delivering learning and development without stuffiness. Fun and inspiring engagement always. Hannah Astley delivering insightful opportunities for betterment. Luke Brannigan for your insight into personal development and how we all can be better. All the speakers for their dedicated knowledge sessions - Whilst some may not be fully applicable to individuals roles, there’s always snippets you can learn and take away. I stumbled across my original cover letter from 15 March 2017 when I first applied to Elsby 🗓 ✨ It read: "Elsby attracts me because of the smaller nature of the firm with large ambitions and the support and emphasis given to employees to become all-rounded individuals. The care for clients is as important as employees, and the focus on personal as well as professional development shows me an ambitious firm that I would be proud to be part of." ⌛ Seven years later, I am excited to say that my observations have held true. Elsby has consistently demonstrated its commitment to growth, and my career journey is great proof of that, as well as that of others around me. It’s been a remarkable journey, and I’m incredibly proud to be part of this team. 🌱 At Elsby, our core values shape our interactions with clients and guide our internal culture. One of these values, 'Investing in Growth', emphasises the importance of dedicating time, effort, and energy to achieve meaningful and rewarding outcomes. 🚀 Although these values weren't explicitly defined when I first started, Ann Phillips has played a key role in helping us develop and articulate them. ( 2 minute read ) A little bit about me: On the 25th of September, 2022, I had my first day of university at LSE. On the 28th of September 2022, I got my first job working as a line cook at a pub. By May 2023, I left the service industry with enough savings to fully support myself through my next academic years. I was working long hours, getting home at 2 or 3AM after being on my feet all day. My hands which signed my first contract deal are the same which cleaned plates. My feet which walked me onto stage for my World Championship in Bodybuilding were the same ones dragging me home at 3AM after an 11 hour shift. So what changed? I would love to come on here and say that I had an epiphany which I would share with all of you, or learned some hard-kept secret about success that no one else has been let in on. That’s not the case. In truth, nothing changed. I had the same fire in my heart at the beginning of my journey as I do now. The only thing that’s changed is this: My externalization of this fire. I had the same ambitions, goals and work ethic. All that changed is how much I let people see this side of me. The small achievements, as well as the big, were all shouted from rooftops with the same energy. This flame kept me going through my shifts, then through my business plans, my ideas, contracts, qualifications, and the storm of accolades I’ve secured in less than 2 years. I don’t say this to pat myself on the back, but rather to show the younger people who too feel this fire that they’re not alone. YOU are not alone, and it’s 100% possible to harness what you see inside of yourself and turn it into what you see in the mirror. So, dear reader, today I’ll ask you this: What are you going to do today to externalise your fire?

Staff Spotlight! Meet our Business Development Manager, Ash-Lea Wilkins. With her background in Public Relations working in melting pot of the hospitality and lifestyle scene of Sydney and managing high end client relationships - she was well equipped to step into the QLD construction industry with a thick skin and ability to manage many moving parts in a bigger picture. We asked her a few fun questions and here were her great responses: What is the one thing you cannot resist? Hand-made pasta 🍝 What is your greatest fear? Confined spaces / a tunnel I would have to crawl through. Eeek. Where is your favourite place to be? The beach. Where is the best place you’ve travelled to and why? Oaxaca, Mexico. Myself and my husband lived there for two years pre-kids and it was just amazing. What’s the weirdest job you’ve ever had? I had a short stint selling jeans on King St in Newtown, out of a vacant shop front when I was much younger. What would you do (for a career) if you weren’t doing this? Scuba diving instructor. Any favourite line from a movie? “I live my life a quarter-mile at a time.”  – Dominic Toretto Fast and the Furious (That one is for Zac ha) Tell us something that might surprise us about you: I joined the Navy at 17. If you could choose anyone, who would you pick as your mentor? Dallas Willard or C.S Lewis. If you could learn to do anything, what would it be? It would be incredible to have the skills and imagination to build things. As in, I need a new desk... then just know how to build a really nice, well designed desk. Or garden bed, or chook house.. you get the idea!

The best part of my job is getting to know the companies we work with.   Sometimes when we are REALLY lucky, getting to “know” them involves a Pickleball tournament. If you’ve read my posts, you’ve probably seen me praising Lancaster County. This week we got spend time with Merv King and the team at Beuta. Another Lancaster gem. Getting to work with companies like Beuta is what I love most about my job. They are a talented team with a vision. And they are growing crazy fast! If you like board rooms, bureaucracy, big egos, strong opinions, and slow decision making, then you probably won’t think they are very much. If you like seeing Amish family members working together manufacturing products they believe in. And you like seeing offices with kids art plastered over every inch of wall space. And a tangible excitement about growth and what the future holds. Then like me, you’ll probably think they are totally awesome.
