I am proud of the book we put together during our doctoral residency last year, titled "From program to practice: Program, empowerment, and persistence in doctoral education." I wrote a piece on the persistence required of first-generation college students in pursuit of their terminal degrees. To transform our educational systems, we must get serious about providing first-generation students with opportunities to gain the social capital and real capital they didn't get access to growing up. https://lnkd.in/g4qPa7gF

Update from Eduardo Sastre! Eduardo had the opportunity to attend the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for Ragon Institute of Mass General, MIT, and Harvard on June 17, 2024. This ceremony celebrated their new headquarters building which opened in Cambridge. According to a news article on their website, "The new 323,000 square-foot space, located in the heart of Kendall Square at 600 Main St., includes lab and work space and is Leed Gold certified by the US Green Building Council. Designed with sustainability in mind, the new Ragon Institute features outdoor spaces with an array of vegetation, blue roof systems that retain and control water, a green roof, as well as other energy efficient materials and designs. In addition to being a hub for medical innovation, the Ragon Institute will also serve as a community gathering place for area residents and will host community education programs designed to engage underrepresented high school and undergraduate students in medical science and research." Eduardo was invited to assist with this exciting event and had the opportunity to see Jonathan Kraft (who is Chair of Mass General Brigham’s Board of Trustees) after working for him at the construction of the Gillette Stadium, home of the five-time Super Bowl champion New England Patriots. He also had the chance to hear from the presidents of a Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Mass General Brigham, Ragon Institute’s three member institutions. In addition, Susan and Terry Ragon, the benefactors of the Ragon Institute, were in attendance. What a wonderful achievement that will help the Ragon Institute's misson for curing human disease! #ArrowTimeConsultants #efficiency #collaboration #partnership #scheduling #reports #projectmanagement #SmallBusiness #MinorityOwnedBusiness #SmallBusinessConsulting #constructionconsulting #constructionindustry #innovation #research #medicalresearch #Harvard #MIT #MassGeneral #RagonInstitute #science #energyefficiency #sustainability #community #

Getting a doctorate is a long and isolating road. Countless hours spent in solitude, pouring over data, sacrificing precious moments with loved ones. But amidst the solitude, there's a flicker of hope—a tradition that bridges the gap between isolation and camaraderie, between solitude and solidarity. As we enter graduation season, I'm reminded of the emotional rollercoaster that is earning a doctoral degree. The late nights, the missed family gatherings, the moments of self-doubt. It's a journey filled with challenges, but also with immense growth and self-discovery. One of the most poignant moments of this journey is the hooding ceremony—a symbolic transition from student to colleague, from isolation to community. I'll never forget the overwhelming sense of pride and belonging as I stood before my mentors, surrounded by my peers, and received my doctoral hood at Teachers College, Columbia University. 🎉 That's why, as a faculty member, I make it a point to stand for each graduate as they are hooded. It's a small gesture, but one that speaks volumes—a gesture of solidarity, of recognition, of welcoming them into the academic family. 🤝 To all the graduates out there, as you walk across that stage and receive your hood, know that you are not alone. Your sacrifices have not gone unnoticed. Your journey has not been in vain. Embrace this moment, savor the triumph, and know that you are now part of a community that honors and supports you every step of the way. 🚀 Read more about why I stand in Academic Medicine Journal: https://lnkd.in/enDb9g53 PS: In honor the graduates, if you were hooded, share your photo in the comments. 👇 🌟 #GraduationSeason #AcademicCommunity #HonoringTheJourney 🎓

Experienced B2B leader with a track record as a strategic and results-driven team-player who thrives in challenging environments. Poised in pressure situations and skilled in making connections, makes goals a reality.
Growth for colleges and universities 📚 will come when they focus on the Finisher 40. Consider: 👩🎓 40+ million Americans, according to StraighterLine, are considered "SCNCs" (Some College, No Credential) 🎓. 🧑💻 Roughly 40% of U.S. undergrads are part-time students ⏳. Yet despite these facts, most higher education brands and marketing budgets 💸 are still heavily biased towards finding traditional undergrad applicants fresh out of high school 🎒. Continuing ed, degree completion, and grad programs tend to get the scraps 🥄. That's one of the things that has me excited to work at Viv Higher Education 💼—we're focused on grad, adult learners, and other growth paths for #highered 🚀. How's your institution marketing to the Finisher 40? 🤔 #highered #highereducation #higheredleadership #SCNC #Finisher40

Department Chair and Associate Professor for the Health Care Management Program at Northwood University
Do you feel stuck and unfulfilled? Maybe it is time to consider enhancing your professional development like I did through attaining the Doctor of Health Administration (DHA) degree through Central Michigan University. This online program has close to 25 years of history offering the degree to mid to senior level health professionals from across the United States and Canada and internationally. Because everyone is already engaged in healthcare, the program concentrates on enhancing leadership, communication, critical thinking, systems, policy, global health, and research skills needed for a doctoral level dissertation that contributes to the field. I learned so much not only from faculty but also the participants who come from such varied fields as administration, management, clinical leadership, healthcare technology, finance, community and public health, consulting, government and military, third party payors, and other health related positions. While the program is not specifically designed to train professionals to teach in higher education, like me, alumni now teach at over 40 universities and colleges. Most use the degree to enhance their leadership in healthcare institutions and health related organizations. This is the time to step back and think about what a doctoral degree will do for you and more importantly for healthcare. For further information contact the Graduate Admissions office at Central Michigan University (https://cmich.edu) or contact Dr. Steven Berkshire, DHA Program director at berks1sd@cmich.edu or 989.774.1640.
