How can we lower the ratio between adults and students in schools? 1. Empower parents to monitor what and how their children are learning on a daily basis. 2. Build inclusive classrooms with reading and math teachers who pull out and push in as necessary so that students get on time feedback, coaching and practice. 3. Have science and social studies teachers build in half hour lessons daily in k- 4 gradeclassrooms. 4. Have music and art teachers provide weekly instruction to all students k-8 5. Provide one weekly LOTE class in every grade so that students are learning a language other than English starting in the first grade. 6. Build wrap around services so that families do not need to request testing and IEPs to access SPEECH and SETTS services in elementary or middle school. Make these services available to all families who request them in school or out of school. 7. Provide lots of afterschool extracurricular choices in all schools so that students can grow their interests and talents.

I recently read this article as part of a course I am taking that shed an interesting perspective on how early childhood teachers teach the alphabet to young children. Focusing on a letter a week has been the norm for quite some time, but is it time to make a shift in our approach to teaching the alphabetic principle? https://lnkd.in/ePdZzB4V

In case you missed it at the Board meeting, Asbury showcased some of the amazing work their Kindergarten teachers are doing in the classroom! Students are learning how to subitize, which means they're able to recognize the quantity of a number in addition to the numeric form of the number. This is a foundational skill in math and fact fluency, which will help them throughout their education 🔢 https://lnkd.in/gM32Qtn5

Early Childhood Education teaches children receptive and expressive language skills to further listen to and understand languages. Expressive language enables them to communicate their thoughts and feelings more vocally. As your child progresses, they build their literacy skills by learning to communicate through sounds and gestures. Kids exposed to a learning environment when still young get enough room to communicate efficiently and effectively. #earlychildhoodeducation #earlyyears #education #braindevelopment

Phonological awareness and alphabet knowledge are fundamental building blocks for literacy development. With this research, they identified preschoolers with persistent delays in these skills and evaluated the efficacy of a supplemental curriculum to remediate deficits in early literacy skills. METHOD(S): Using a cluster design, 21 classrooms were randomly assigned to early literacy versus language intervention conditions. Sixty children identified through fall semester assessments of phonological awareness and alphabet knowledge were enrolled in small-group instruction. @phonicsinmotion ・・・ Meeting kids at their level is crucial for teaching literacy skills. But how do we do that when juggling a classroom (or homeschool!) of different literacy levels and learning challenges? At Phonics in Motion, our multi-sensory literacy approach helps kids HEAR, SEE and FEEL sounds in the English language, so they get the information they need in the way they learn best. We believe in an evidence based approach to literacy instruction, but deliver in a way that lets kids be kids. Ready to try our literacy routines to teach foundational reading & handwriting skills?
