When the places we work support our lives *outside of work* it benefits the entire community. Family-friendly business practices—such as hybrid or remote work, on-site childcare, and different types of economic support—are essential in building a sustainable and supportive workplace culture. Bemetra Simmons was pleased to serve as the keynote speaker at the Thrive by Five Tampa Bay Family Friendly Business Awards yesterday where several Tampa Bay Partnership investors were recognized for their efforts. Congratulations to Community Foundation Tampa Bay, Moffitt Cancer Center, United Way Suncoast, University of South Florida, Vistra Communications, and the Vinik Sports Group for this recognition and for all you do to improve employee well-being. 🚨 We have activated our Critical Needs List to support local nonprofits as they respond to the hurricanes related needs in our community. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact by supporting the urgent and unexpected needs faced by these nonprofits. To amplify your support, Community Foundation Tampa Bay will be matching a portion of the funding provided by our fundholders. Together, we can help those affected recover and rebuild. Did you know that voters in five Tampa Bay counties have an important choice to make this November about supporting education? Tampa Bay’s future economic prosperity relies on the next generation of talent, and recruiting and retaining quality educators and staff for our students is a paramount concern. The Tampa Bay Partnership advocates in favor of approving educational referendums for each county. You can read more about our position in this op-ed by Bemetra Simmons published by the Tampa Bay Business Journal earlier today. #TeamTampaBay #InvestinEducation #VoteYesforEducationReferendums

🚨 VOLUNTEERS NEEDED🚨 So far, Feeding Tampa Bay has provided 725,000 meals through our distribution sites alone. We have also provided 2,500 cooked meals to first responders, neighbors, and group homes who have needed assistance post storm #hurricanehelene. With the massive increase in our communities need, we have also had a huge increase in volunteers wanting to help provide support, and we are so thankful for everyone helping us during this time! Despite the increase in volunteers, WE STILL NEED HELP! Manatee County is struggling for volunteers, and we'd love some community support to help us provide a distribution for hurricane relief efforts in this location. Be safe, Tampa Bay! The anticipated storm surge from what will likely become Hurricane Helene later this week is a prescient reminder about the importance of resiliency for our region. Our report (below), funded by a philanthropic investment from JPMorgan Chase, details the economic consequences without adaptation action, reveals the economic benefits of adaptation, advances strategies to enhance economic resilience, and explores the socioeconomics of the impacts of more frequent flooding and sea level rise. -- "The economic implications of frequent flooding events are less understood than catastrophic events...However, these are exactly the type of events in which infrastructure investments geared toward adaptation can greatly reduce the impact."
