There are endless reasons to give your time and money to non-profits like Stone of Hope Youth. Just a few include helping build great communities, making us feel good when we give back, providing basic tangible needs for others, and sending a message to the world that you want to make a difference! It's scientifically proven to make you feel good when you give... Especially when your impact helps high school students graduate, creates 1st-generation college students, aids in ending generational poverty in families, provides social-emotional skills to youth, and creates a safe place for youth to belong instead of in gangs. That's a great feeling! #givingback #community #charity #nonprofit #donate #giveback #volunteer #support #love #socialgood #philanthropy #dogood #help #donation #fundraiser #education #makeadifference #helpingothers #youthprogram #atriskyouth #volunteering #nonprofitorganization #change #ngo #causes #children #speakinglife #changinglives #hope #giving

It is absolutely criminal that this amount of capital sits unused and held in these tax avoidance vehicles. This is capital raised off of the labor of working classes, stagnant wages, refusal to provide benefits such as health insurance, hyper-low tax rates for corporations, successful lobbying and campaign spending to destroy regulatory effectiveness, and dirty climate practices. To name a few things. Claw it all back, and let voters decide. For those unfamiliar, a Donor Adivsed Fund, or DAF, is an account that people can put assets into, and thereby avoid paying capital gains tax on those assets. If the asset is worth more than when they purchased it, they can deduct the current market value instead of the original cost. The donor can take a deduction for the year the money is moved into the fund, but is under no obligation to distribute it.
We launched our Get Off Your Assets campaign in 2019 as a call to move more money, more urgently to meet the needs of marginalized communities. If not now, when? Our partners answered the call: while other donor-advised fund providers usually have a spend-down rate of around 20% per year, Tides Foundation DAFs show an astonishing average spend-down rate of more than 70% per year. We must keep going—and as the year draws to a close, we’re asking all of philanthropy to join us. Movement leaders have told us that 2023 has been the most challenging fundraising year in the past five years. We must stand united in defense of democracy, social justice, and our climate. None of it can wait. Read the full letter from Tides Foundation Executive Director Peter Martin: https://lnkd.in/eHSukV7Y #philanthropy #nonprofit

Great summary on the 2024 Giving USA report by the Giving USA Foundation today! Some good news around a stable philanthropic market place post pandemic. Giving was up overall by 1.9% in total current dollars in 2023 reaching an all-time high in current dollars at $557 Billion (giving was down close to 2% if you include inflation)! Individual giving increased in 2023 (after a couple years of decline) and bequests continue to see large growth (the great wealth transfer is happening). Overall, it is interesting to see Foundations and Public Society Benefit (mostly DAFs) organizations continue to see a larger and larger share of the total $557 Billion given away every year. #donoradvisedfunds #philanthropytech #charitablegiving #privatefoundations

"Children Absorb What They Experience 🌱 When children experience criticism, they learn to judge. When children experience hostility, they learn to combat. When children experience ridicule, they learn to be reserved. When children experience shame, they learn to harbor guilt. When children experience encouragement, they cultivate confidence. When children experience tolerance, they foster patience. When children experience praise, they nurture appreciation. When children experience acceptance, they discover love. When children experience approval, they learn self-appreciation. When children experience truth, they become honest. When children experience security, they foster faith in themselves and others. When children experience friendliness, they perceive the world as a welcoming place to inhabit. At Kalama, we believe in equipping our children with comprehensive skills, knowledge, and the Word of God, fostering a future of self-sustainability. We strive to create an environment where every child feels loved, cared for, and is empowered to dream. Let's shape a world where every child's experience is one of love, acceptance, and growth. 🕊🌍💡" #charity #nonprofit #donate #love #fundraising #community #support #help #volunteer #giveback #covid #donation #fundraiser #ngo #education #dogood #children #socialgood #givingback #donations #philanthropy #hope #instagood #change #family #makeadifference #charityevent #helpingothers #nonprofitorganization #volunteering

Many people view donating to nonprofit organizations or individuals in need as a way to help others, but research has also found that charitable giving is good for the giver. Individuals who donate to others report feeling happy, while charitable giving also makes us feel good about ourselves and others. Additionally, giving to others helps us find meaning and purpose while giving us a sense of connection to the world. Children who perform acts of kindness report a higher likelihood of social acceptance and academic achievement and develop empathy for others. Studies have found that even very young children are innately compassionate and giving. Additionally, members of Generation Z—nicknamed “Philanthroteens”—have even stronger feelings about giving as they are concerned with the planet and the world around them. 📖 Finish reading the benefits of student giving on the blog: https://bit.ly/3OaYTN5 #Students #Giving #EmpowerPotential #DoMathPayItForward

A quick history review regarding Donor Advised Funds: The first DAF was established nearly a century ago, in 1931, by the New York Community Trust and supported by John D. Rockefeller. This DAF was created to expand upon the work of community foundations. For example, the Cleveland Foundation was the world's first community foundation--founded in 1916--and is one of the world's largest community foundations today. Community foundations pool funds donated by a variety of individuals and groups and make grants at the discretion of foundation directors. Alternatively, DAFs were created to allow individual donors much more control over which organizations were funded, and at what levels. Today, DAFs are hosted by a range of sponsoring institutions - including community foundations, universities, hospitals, financial firms and religious institutions. Check back in later this week to learn about how large DAF accounts typically are, and if one makes sense for you as a donor. If you are a donor-advised fund account holder or are thinking about creating your own personal or family giving plan, send us a message.
