A quick history review regarding Donor Advised Funds: The first DAF was established nearly a century ago, in 1931, by the New York Community Trust and supported by John D. Rockefeller. This DAF was created to expand upon the work of community foundations. For example, the Cleveland Foundation was the world's first community foundation--founded in 1916--and is one of the world's largest community foundations today.    Community foundations pool funds donated by a variety of individuals and groups and make grants at the discretion of foundation directors. Alternatively, DAFs were created to allow individual donors much more control over which organizations were funded, and at what levels. Today, DAFs are hosted by a range of sponsoring institutions - including community foundations, universities, hospitals, financial firms and religious institutions. Check back in later this week to learn about how large DAF accounts typically are, and if one makes sense for you as a donor. If you are a donor-advised fund account holder or are thinking about creating your own personal or family giving plan, send us a message. Love talking about #DonorAdvisedFunds — specifically about how more donors can use them to get more funds to more organizations more quickly.
