The RAI’s work takes us far and wide across the nation and in the last few weeks our CEO, Liz Ritchie has visited some beautiful regional destinations in NSW. Last week at the #BushSummit2024 in Orange, NSW, Liz delivered a powerful message to a room full of politicians, policymakers and regional leaders, who came together to address the challenges facing regional communities: “As millennials lead the charge in the regional tree change movement, we stand on the brink of transformational growth. The challenge? Ensuring we have the people and infrastructure to build thriving communities for generations to come.” Liz’s panel included our two Regional Australia Council partners Gavin Williams from nbn® Australia and Jessica Irvine from Commonwealth Bank – it was the ideal opportunity to showcase how the RAI’s industry partnerships are making a difference, working as system for the system. Meanwhile, at the Social Impact in the Regions event in Kempsey, NSW, Liz took to the stage for a keynote on the Regionalisation Ambition 2032, sharing the RAI’s learnings and recommendations to support more Australians living in our regions. Following that, she joined a dynamic panel of leaders to explore investing in regional social impact. Liz shared a personal experience of what leading systems change is like: “It’s akin to riding down the Grade 6 rapids on the Nile River, it’s exhilarating, and anxiety producing, but then you build momentum and the eco-system rallies, movement and action are real; however, inevitably at some point you or a partner will be thrown out of the boat, submerged in water and struggling to get back on board, until a hand reaches out to you and pulls you back up, then you glide forward once more. You’re exposed and you’re vulnerable, which is why it’s deeply emotional work that can never be done in isolation.” #RegionalOpportunity #MillennialsInMotion #SocialImpact #RAI #InvestingInCommunities #FutureOfRegions

Can the Welsh Diaspora be the answer to a more prosperous Wales? From Jeremy Miles FM Election Manifesto A “Make it in Wales” campaign to attract talent to Wales and bring Welsh diaspora home, including exploring new financial incentives for our new and recent graduates to set up businesses and work in Wales. It's taken a long time for any mention of the Welsh diaspora to find its way into mainstream political discourse. GlobalWelsh has been saying for many years, we have an amazing diaspora that wants to help Wales become more prosperous. My research showed that returning diaspora tend to have a hugely positive impact on the economy, so a campaign to encourage more to return is something that is long overdue. Equally we can benefit even if they stay away, especially helping and mentoring young graduate entrepreneurs build strong international businesses. Check out our website for examples of the work we've been doing to help grow individuals and the Welsh economy. www.globalwelsh.com GlobalWelsh has the knowledge, experience and digital platform to scale its diaspora engagement activities and hope that our next FM makes the commitments necessary to leverage Wales' valuable and talented diaspora. Honored to join an insightful roundtable with The Hon. Peter Dutton MP, Leader of the Opposition, and Dr Katie Allen to discuss some of the most pressing issues for Australia’s future. Our conversation focused on three key areas: Community resilience: How we can strengthen local support networks and foster resilience in challenging times. Economic confidence: Exploring ways to build stability and growth, and increase employment opportunities. Collaboration: The vital role corporate and not-for-profit organisations can play together in shaping a stronger, more inclusive Australia. It was inspiring to hear different perspectives on how we can collectively contribute to a more prosperous and resilient society. Together, we can make a real impact on our communities and nation. #leadership #community #economicconfidence #collaboration #strongeraustralia

🌟An inspiring week for change at the CREATE Foundation Conference in Adelaide, where our National Program Director, Cameron Burgess, heard from and joined forces with young voices from across Australia 📢 CREATE champions youth voices and a pivotal belief: for the 44,000 young Australians growing up in care, meaningful improvements demand a partnership with those who have lived it. This year’s conference theme, ‘Your Stories. Stronger Together,’ brought this vision to life, emphasising the power of individual journeys in shaping a collective future. Voices in Action. The Voices in Action conference was more than an event; it was a movement. Bringing together young people, carers, and professionals, it provided an in-depth exploration of the care system through the eyes of its most important stakeholders – the children and young people themselves. Cameron had the opportunity to hear from so many of our young people and discuss finding meaning in adversity, encouraging us all to use our stories as a catalyst for change and to stand together in solidarity. It was also a joy to hear and see the positive support and advocacy of Amanda Rishworth Helen Connolly Liana Buchanan Jodie Griffiths-Cook Natalie Lewis Leanne McLean Katrine Hildyard MP Jackie Bray Jacqueline M. Together, we’re not just sharing stories; we’re setting the stage for systemic reform in the out-of-home care sector. By elevating the voices of young leaders, we ensure our care system in Australia is not just effective, but transformative. Let’s continue to listen, learn, and lead with empathy and action. 💪 #YourStories #StrongerTogether #CREATEConference #YouthVoice #YouthAgency #VoicesInAction #Leadership

A creative force, driving straight-through practical solutions delivering real business improvements.
Every year the Australia debate raises it's head and every year the frustration builds. My 2 cents .... If we look at the needs of the two sides of the debate it is obvious to me that one single day is not able to meet those needs. One day needs to provide the country with a day of reflection for the loss and sorrow. The other needs to provide the country with a day where we can come to celebrate the multicultural country we are and the progress we all aim to achieve each year. It's not a complex solution. We know how to do both. Change the 26th, to be a day of reflection, with public events and the appropriate traditions for such a day built by and for First Nations Peoples, where all other Australian's can attend, learn and connect. Add a public holiday on the 27th, as the 'national day', where we all celebrate together, as the multicultural nation we are. The two days will then work in conjunction together, allowing a space for recognition and a space for unity. #australiaday #indigenousaustralians #australiaday2024 #dayofmourning #firstnations #Reconciliation #australidaypublicholiday #AnthonyAlbanese

As Australia Day approaches, businesses and individuals alike face the question: should we create a post on our social media accounts to commemorate the day? This question has become increasingly complex as societal attitudes shift, and as some major companies and sporting events have made the decision not to promote it. After careful reflection, I've made a decision out of respect and solidarity to not post about Australia Day. There is not right or wrong answer and I understand that this decision may not be the right choice for every business. 𝗥𝗲𝗳𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗮 𝗗𝗮𝘆 Firstly, it's important to understand why this question is so relevant. Australia Day, while a celebration of the Australian spirit for many, is also seen as a day of mourning by others, particularly those in the Indigenous community. It marks the beginning of European settlement in Australia, which brought about significant suffering and displacement for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This duality has led to controversy about how the day should be marked, if at all. Some businesses and events, such as Cricket Australia and Triple J's Hottest 100, have opted not to celebrate the day, moving their events away from January 26th in a show of respect and solidarity. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗤𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗕𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗔𝘀𝗸 So, should your business post on social media for Australia Day? The answer to this depends largely on your brand and your audience. Ask yourself: 🤔 Does my brand have a clear stance on societal issues, and how does Australia Day align with that stance? 🤔 How might my audience react to a post commemorating Australia Day – could it alienate or upset a portion of my followers? 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹𝘆 If you decide to post, there are several ways to ensure your message is respectful and considerate. 𝟷. 𝙰𝚌𝚔𝚗𝚘𝚠𝚕𝚎𝚍𝚐𝚎 𝚝𝚑𝚎 𝙳𝚞𝚊𝚕 𝚂𝚒𝚐𝚗𝚒𝚏𝚒𝚌𝚊𝚗𝚌𝚎: Recognise that Australia Day has different meanings for different people. This can be done subtly, through the use of inclusive language, or more directly, by acknowledging the history of the day. 𝟸. 𝙿𝚛𝚘𝚖𝚘𝚝𝚎 𝚄𝚗𝚒𝚝𝚢: Use your platform to promote unity and respect among all Australians. This could involve sharing stories that highlight the diversity and resilience of the Australian community. 𝟹. 𝙰𝚟𝚘𝚒𝚍 𝚂𝚝𝚎𝚛𝚎𝚘𝚝𝚢𝚙𝚎𝚜: Avoid using clichéd or potentially offensive stereotypes in your posts. Instead, focus on shared values and experiences. 𝟺. 𝙴𝚗𝚐𝚊𝚐𝚎 𝚒𝚗 𝙲𝚘𝚗𝚟𝚎𝚛𝚜𝚊𝚝𝚒𝚘𝚗: Be prepared for differing opinions and aim to facilitate respectful conversation. In conclusion, the decision to post on Australia Day is a personal one for each business. It's crucial to think critically about your brand values and audience before deciding how to proceed.

January 26 is not a day for celebration. For Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, this date is intertwined with a long history of injustices, dispossession, and cultural suppression and erasure. It is a day of deep mourning and reflection on the tragic impacts of colonisation; however, it can also be an opportunity for open dialogue and progress towards Reconciliation. Leadership Victoria calls for understanding, respect and a commitment to addressing the ongoing challenges faced in Indigenous communities. In solidarity with First Nations people, the Leadership Victoria office will remain open on 26 January, with staff working regular hours on the public holiday and taking leave on another day. By keeping our doors open, we aim to encourage an environment of awareness and meaningful conversations about Australia’s shared history. We encourage the LV community of leaders to contribute in your own communities, organisations and sectors, to stand with First Nations people in fostering an inclusive future where history and culture is celebrated and honoured as part of a reconciled Australia. 🌟 Strengthening Australia's Cultural Sector Through Partnerships 🌟 A brand new insight report from A New Approach, Australia's leading national arts and culture think tank. "Intentional and informed efforts to strengthen people’s and organisations’ capacities to work in partnerships using a constructive, purpose-focused approach are essential to securing Australia’s place as a cultural powerhouse." This report demonstrates how partnerships help to ensure that all Australians can access and enjoy cultural and creative experiences, even in these tough times. It explores pathways for effective collaboration to help the cultural sector to evolve, meet future demands and drive social, cultural, and economic benefits now and into the future. Strong partnerships between the cultural sector and governments, community organisations, philanthropic trusts, and businesses deliver many diverse benefits. They matter for cultural and creative value chains as they can produce practical resourcing benefits as well as improved returns on investment and results beyond those that can be achieved by a single entity. They can also foster cooperative behaviour and provide solutions to some of our nation’s biggest challenges. This new report from ANA https://lnkd.in/gVjvimmx presents tools to help partners navigate adversity and elevate collaboration as Australia’s competitive advantage. It is essential reading for those that are new to the cultural sector, those navigating new challenges within this sector, and for those from outside seeking to partner with the sector. #CulturalSector #Partnerships #Collaboration #Australia #CreativeIndustries #ANewApproach
