Pride Month is also a month of high horse riders. Posts like the one above although they might seem like wise and balanced are doing a lot of harm. Many corporates in USA specifically but also abroad face boycott calls by right wing narratives when they celebrate Pride - are we sure we want to be pushing the win in their way? Are corporates that don’t do anything ride out the storm, risk nothing, do nothing and keep on minting it in. Posts like the one below assume that there are trillions in queer economy, research seem to differ. So before you jump on a bandwagon think why aren’t we posting the logos of companies who are not bothered by Pride Month and don’t even change their logos. Then go and speak to someone who comes from places like Russia where displaying a rainbow is a crime and ask them how seeing it all over the place makes them feel. Do we need corporates to do more work. Sure, but we all could be doing more, but let’s not pretend we are somewhat achieving it by slamming the doors in the face of those who do something while those who do NOTHING get a free pass.

Welcome to Pride Month! Guess what? I'm gay, and I didn't know what Pride Month was before getting a gay job. When you come out, no one gives you a handbook on queer history and all the days of celebration we have, and boy do we have a lot! I do feel like I've completed a university degree in queer advocacy in the past year though, and I'd love to share some insights that I think your business can benefit from. I'll be sharing ways you can authentically engage and contribute to societal change and how this leads to employee attraction, engagement and retention. I absolutely love Pride for what it stands for—courage, acceptance, love, and the ongoing fight for equality. It's a vibrant reminder of the progress we've made and the work still ahead. 🏳️🌈 However, I can’t help but feel frustrated by the intense focus on Pride only during June. As soon as July rolls around, it often feels like the rainbow flags come down, and the momentum fades. Genuine support for the LGBTQ+ community shouldn't be confined to just one month. Here’s why: 1. Year-Round Commitment: Real change requires ongoing effort. We need to keep pushing for inclusive policies, continuous education, and everyday actions that support equality. 2. Visibility Matters: LGBTQ+ individuals face challenges daily, not just in June. Visibility and support should be constant to ensure a safe and accepting environment for all. 3. Genuine Support: Companies and organizations must move beyond performative gestures. Authentic allyship means embedding LGBTQ+ support into the fabric of your culture and operations, all year long. 4. Continuous Learning: Understanding and allyship are ongoing processes. Continuous learning and hard conversations help us grow and create a more inclusive society. 🌈 Happy Pride Month! 🌈 To observe Pride Month, in addition to celebrating our LGBTQ+ sisters in business, we want to bring attention to the disparities they face in the journey up the career ladder to those C-Suite and senior leadership positions, because the fight for equity is far from over. Did you know that, according to Catalyst Inc., just .4% of Fortune 500 board seats are held by openly LGBTQ+ directors? And that's ALL LGBTQ+ individuals--not just women. The lack of LGBTQ+ leadership in business goes all the way down the professional ladder, especially for women. Less than half of gay women and just 20% of bisexual women are out to all their coworkers, according to Catalyst. Ensuring everyone has the space and support to be themselves in the workplace now is how we will see more diverse leadership in the future. Ricoh has been celebrating SDGs Action Month globally throughout June, focusing on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI). As a result of this and our ongoing commitment to the UN SDGs and DEI as pillars of our culture and business strategy, we joined the Pride Month celebration worldwide.   As we reflect on the significant milestone of the Stonewall riots that occurred on June 28, 1969, we acknowledge society's progress in ensuring the LGBTQ+ community's representation and visibility. However, it's crucial to remember that the fight for justice and equality is far from over.   At Ricoh, we are continuously taking steps to ensure a safe and inclusive workplace for everyone, including our LGBTQ+ employees, customers, and business partners. This commitment is not just for Pride Month but is a year-round effort.   Throughout this month, Ricoh has been actively engaged in a variety of initiatives across the organization, each one a testament to our ongoing DEI journey:   🌈 With over 300 participants and DONNA VENABLE and Gavin Jordan-Smith as Executive hosts, the Ricoh North America Pride event featured guest speaker Jennifer Hauseman, Vice President, Strategy & Campaigns, Mastercard Center for Inclusive Growth in a discussion around allyship, community support, and Pride education. 🌈 Ricoh Europe and Ricoh UK hosted a live webinar that explored the roots of Pride and the crucial role that allies play in supporting the LGBTQ+ community. They also created blogs, articles, and videos from Nicola Downing, Sophie Cox, and Tarik Reid to support the SDG objectives and the link with DEI initiatives in the workplace. 🌈 Ricoh LATAM's LGBTQ+ Employee Resource Group partnered with EAP Latina to host four live webinars to learn more about Pride Month, strategies to make the workplace more inclusive for the community and inspire others to join the group. 🌈 Pride is not about being performative but transformative 🌈 During my recent trip to London, I noticed a pride golf cart among 20-30 others, brightly adorned with Pride colors. As much as I appreciate the representation, I yearn for more meaningful changes towards the LGBTQ+ communities in the UK. There's so much resistance and negativity in both the US and UK that it seems companies are becoming indifferent. There's a growing compassion fatigue towards trans and gender-diverse communities. Pride Month is essential to remember that this time is not just for colorful parades and corporate rainbow logos. Pride is a powerful movement rooted in the fight for equality, dignity, and human rights for the LGBTQ+ community.
