As summer comes to a close, we want to recognize and thank our incredible interns! This year, we were lucky to have a group full of motivated students, always ready to learn and contribute. Having young minds on our team always brings fresh ideas and energy, and we're sad to see them go. We can't wait to see what the future holds for each of them—it's sure to be bright!

3 Things My Interns Taught Me This Year: -Support Their Boundary-Setting: Notice those small moments where they work past fear of disappointing you or anyone else in order to set a boundary, and celebrate that moment! That moment may have taken so much energy to work up to, so let them know you value their effort in doing so. There are too many of us who struggle with setting boundaries, so it is always a great moment when our young people test this out. -Assume the Best: Okay, I already knew this, but I am always appreciative of those moments when you assume anyone you are working with has great intention when something does not go perfectly, and then you find out context that you were correct. We all just want to do our best! -Prioritize Space for Creative Freedom: If it were not for this, allowing my interns to have some decision-making power in how we navigate certain strategies, we would not have been able to create such meaningful connections with students on this campus. So thank you to my interns, enjoy the remainder of your summer, and I will see you in the Fall!

If you are new to the profession - and starting a summer internship - you are more tuned into the business press. Two weeks ago, the world saw rate cuts in the US as a 2025 affair. Fast forward to today - and with a bit more data – the world sees at least some cuts in 2024. Feel like conventional wisdom is a puppy chasing a forecasting ball around the yard? Therein lies the advantage of attending our June Macro Summit for Summer Interns. Establish an intellectual framework early in your career. Let the rest of the investment profession chase frisbees.

🌟 What’s the real impact of bringing interns into our workplace? 🌟 As I start this Monday, it’s a bit odd not having Thomas Hall around after he completed his final day with us on Friday. Interns bring fresh perspectives and energy to our teams, and they also offer us valuable lessons in leadership and mentorship. From my experience leading Thomas Hall and Harvey Parkes this year, having interns on board teaches us: 💡 Empowerment Through Initiative: Allowing interns to take ownership and make mistakes helps them—and us—grow. It’s all about creating a culture where experimentation and different perspectives are encouraged. 📒 The Art of Delegation: Effective delegation isn’t just about assigning tasks; it’s about guiding and supporting others to build their skills while enhancing our own leadership abilities. 🌱 Mutual Growth: The process of mentoring interns can reveal our own strengths and areas for improvement, making it a truly reciprocal experience. Watching Tom and Harvey evolve from cautious newcomers to confident, proactive team members has been incredibly rewarding. Their openness to feedback and willingness to step out of their comfort zones have shown me just how transformative investing in early talent can be. I’m so proud to see how far they’ve come and deeply thankful for their hard work. While I’m sad to see Thomas Hall move on, I’m excited to see what Harvey Parkes will achieve as he continues with us part-time. 55 interns in 2024! Wanted to give a shout out to our team, Hingham Street Partners at UBS, on another successful year of inspiring the next generation of workers through our internship program. Great job to the advisors and mentors on our team who make this possible! The programs agenda is outlined below. Work on a project that may potentially help us with the management of our portfolios and present your findings to our portfolio team Work on researching an individual equity idea, or "theme based" industry idea, and present your thoughts and findings to each other and to our portfolio team Develop a white paper and present your work to your Mentee Cohort and our Leadership Team (Examples: "Fraud Prevention" and "Survival Guide for Teens and Early 20s") Inspiring and insightful guest speakers providing leadership and career advice Presentations from former Hingham Street Partners Mentees to discuss how they were able to navigate and leverage their Hingham Street Partners Mentorship experience to get to the next level A personal mentor from our team who will help guide your success in the program and answer any questions that you may have Twice weekly Zoom meetings. The rest of the week will be used as time to work on your projects. Additionally, during each session, we will offer you an investment lesson as well as a life lesson that we hope helps guide your heart and attitude and lead you to a successful and happy life.
