We're thrilled to share the success of our recent presentation at Oncology Nursing Society Congress, where Amy Hillsman, MSN, ANP-BC had the opportunity to highlight the vital importance of proactive symptom management in cancer care. Patients receiving cancer treatment experience a high level of symptom burden. Symptoms can escalate quickly, and real-time response is essential to decreasing symptom burden, improving quality of life, and avoiding patients seeking alternative care sites. At Reimagine Care, we firmly believe that addressing symptoms before they escalate is crucial for enhancing the quality of life for patients with cancer. Our program focuses on proactive measures using technologies such as digital patient engagement platforms that provide electronic patient reported outcomes (EPRO), symptom reporting, automated coaching, and virtual care management can increase the timeliness of patient symptom reporting and access to clinician expertise ensuring that patients receive the support they need. We're incredibly proud to announce that our efforts are making a tangible difference. According to this 2023 study, an overwhelming 9 out of 10 patients would recommend Reimagine Care—a testament to the impact we're having on their lives. This recognition reinforces our commitment to revolutionizing cancer care and underscores the significance of proactive symptom management in improving patient outcomes. #ONSCongress

The Power of Communication in Cancer Care: Transforming Patient Experience Effective communication in oncology isn't just about sharing medical facts—it's about fostering relationships, providing emotional support, and guiding patients through one of the most challenging journeys of their lives. Research underscores that high-quality communication can significantly improve patient outcomes, enhance satisfaction, quality of life, and compliance with treatment plans. Imagine the profound impact a positive remark from a healthcare provider can have during a routine consultation. For example, when doctors and nurses use phrases like "We're a team and we want to help you," “We’re here for you,” or "Let's work on this”, patients often feel less isolated and more empowered. These words can transform a routine medical update into a moment of connection and hope, which is crucial for patients facing the uncertainty of cancer. Clinical anecdotes further illustrate the tangible benefits of effective communication. A patient might enter an oncology clinic feeling anxious about an upcoming treatment but leave feeling reassured and valued after a clear, empathetic conversation with their care team. This kind of interaction not only alleviates immediate concerns but also builds trust and a sense of partnership between patients and their healthcare providers. Moreover, effective communication extends to the entire oncology team. For instance, when nurses explain procedures in a compassionate and clear manner, they help reduce patient anxiety and improve treatment adherence. Each member of the care team plays a vital role in ensuring that communication is consistent, clear, and comforting. Despite the clear benefits, consistent training in effective communication is not yet a standard practice across all oncology programs. We must advocate for the integration of robust communication training in medical education and ongoing professional development to enhance the effectiveness of cancer care delivery. Let's try to improve communication in cancer care, not just for the sake of protocol, but to genuinely connect and improve the lives of those we serve. By fostering an environment where communication flourishes, we can ensure that all patients feel heard, respected, and supported. #CancerCare #HealthcareCommunication #Oncology #PatientCare #MedicalEducation #EmpathyInMedicine #PatientCenteredCare #HealthcareImprovement #Docrates #DocratesCancerCenter For more insights and to support the move towards a better communication in healthcare, connect with me or follow e.g. https://lnkd.in/dmkT5WrJ.

For many cancer survivors, the goal of a survivorship care plan is to support the survivor during the transition from active cancer treatment to the next phase of medical care. While each survivorship care plan (SCP) is slightly different, the ideal SCP can help you understand the plan for your care after treatment, has strategies to manage short and long-term effects of treatments, facilitates accurate and efficient communication between members of your future medical team, and empowers you to have more control over your health.
