A day in the life of a founder hustling and being creative in efforts to raise capital to fund their business weeks out from launch... Here's what yesterday looked like: 1. Confirmation of pitch to Bayer for their €100k incubator fund Posted as a funding Challenge at the HLTH conference this week, I DM'd three members of their R&D team last week to see if I could pitch virtually to save myself the cost of travel to Amsterdam. I got a hit and will be pitching tomorrow at 8am 🙌 2. 3 more investors joined our friends & family syndicate... after the 2nd closing date We extended the syndicate closing date through the weekend to scoop up 2 stragglers, and again into this week to convert another 3 with excellent chasing up from co-founder Wizz 👏 Huge heartfelt thanks to the 17 new investors that join us in the syndicate for believing in us 🧡 We really will close the syndicate this Friday - last call for any final final stragglers 👀 3. New leads taken away from the sequel networking event last night Fantastic evening amongst passionate founders innovating in health & wellness, and importantly, networking and soft pitching investors. I'm already in your inboxes for follow ups 👋 4. Listened to Grace Beverley's podcast with guest Trinny Woodall on cycle home from the event I immediately shared the inspirational episode with Wizz when I got home, alongside what I guess I'd call some sort of manifestation to the universe that I'd love to be given the chance to pitch to these two incredible entrepreneurs 🙏 5. Which brings us to the final play of my day. Writing and scheduling this post to publish Wednesday morning ✍ Something I've never tried before. New tactic. Publicly sharing our WhatsApp chat to see if LinkedIn can work its magic and somehow open a door to a conversation with one, if not both, of these passionate, successful, rebellious, innovators, that match our core brand values at Valerie to a T. If you see this, we would LOVE to share our vision. You're my idea of the perfect investors and advisors, who we could learn so much from! -- Point is, the strategy has pivoted throughout this fundraising campaign, trying many tactics, pitch deck versions, and channels to get in front of the right people. What hasn't changed is consistency and tenacity in showing up. The compounding effect of saying yes to going to an event, making new connections, sending that DM on LinkedIn, etc is profound. And we are gaining incredible momentum. Days like yesterday give us huge confidence that we'll close our pre-seed round very soon. Message to all the early-stage founders out there - keep plugging away ✊ And to Grace and Trinny; I mean it, please give Wizz and I the opportunity to pitch Valerie to you. Munq is officially having our first event (ever) and you are invited! We are partnering with Venture X Worcester to host a welcome event/celebration on Thursday March 21st, from 5:30 - 7:30PM. The event will be held at Venture X on the 4th Floor in the Mercantile Center on 100 Front Street, Worcester MA. Over the past three years, Justin Matsen and I have talked about having an event like this one. This year, we finally committed to it. We wanted the chance to show off our new space with our network while also taking the opportunity to celebrate our growth and achievements thus far. Our motto this year is "make Munq more accessible". Hosting an event is a natural first step to what we hope will be many more ways to do that. This is our first, so you can only imagine the chaos that will ensue...but here's some concrete things you can expect: 1) 2000's hits only (life was better back then and we should just admit it) 2) Catering done by food that doesn't suck (no one wants a cheese platter) 3) You are strictly prohibited from asking others "What do you do?" this question is awkward and deserving of punitive consequences. 4) A speech from yours truly that will get you so fired up you will want to run through a wall Overall...we have an AMAZING network of clients, connections, family and friends. It's about time we got everyone under one roof to connect with one another and celebrate the beautiful growth here at Munq! That and we can't wait to show you the gorgeous co-working space we've found ourselves in. munich here we go again, I can’t wait to join this edition’s FOUNDERS LEAGUE! 🚀🙌 with the first big event of the year around the corner: here’s how I maintain a balance between networking and actually working on our product. 🙋♀️ hands up to whoever can relate: 100 to-dos are waiting, but then there's this event that you don't want to miss. yes, sometimes I wish I could be in two (or three) places all at once. attending the Founders League is the perfect example of how I choose my participation at conferences and networking happenings. before an event, I ask myself the following questions: 1) are the right people there? 👉 Yes. The founders Marcus Diekmann, Johannes Kliesch, Benjamin Diedering, and Julian Rauch always manage to gather amazing founders, experienced entrepreneurs, and investors for each edition, creating value for everyone. 2) what added value will the event bring me? 👉 learning from masterclasses and panel talks that are super relevant to our current stage at Scripe. 3) what are my top 3 goals for the event? 👉 soak up as much knowledge and new inspiration as possible (which I can hopefully also share here). 👉 connect with new people and have conversations with other founders, sharing experiences and creating possible synergies. 👉 get in touch with potential beta users and partners. above all, I learned that the most important thing when attending an event is to BE PRESENT – not thinking too much about the other 100 to-dos. This past weekend we had our fourth Asian Founders Retreat and it was exactly what all seven of us needed during this arduous environment. It’s been a difficult time for many founders from fundraising woes to forecasting challenges (and we’re no exception). So having the space to express our deepest insecurities and hear others going through similar hard times helped make each of us feel less alone. We’ve been organizing these retreats for almost two years now, and I honestly believe we’ve created something rare and special: The alumni attendees catch up in a focused intimate setting and it always feels as if we saw each other recently and not six months ago; the new founders who join are reserved at first but soon open up and integrate with us as if they’ve always been there. I hope to continue co-organizing these much-needed retreats but it’s never easy to find the time to do so since we each also operate our own businesses, which is why we go into each retreat with the mindset that it might be the last and invest our full hearts into it. Heather Dornigan, who was running in second position tripped and fell ( 1:06 minutes into the video) She didn’t stay down. She got back up, ran faster and won the event.
