Relink.org is interested in sharing an article from the Columbus Dispatch dated July 10, 2024, which highlights the significant increase in calls to the suicide hotline 988 in the Central Ohio region in 2024. The article reports that there has been a more than 50% rise in calls during the first half of 2024, with an average of approximately 1,600 calls per month from individuals in crisis in central Ohio. This surge is largely attributed to the growing awareness of the service and increased funding. As the program nears its second year on July 16, the community is urged to utilize the 988 hotline for immediate assistance if experiencing suicidal thoughts. Here is a link to the article: https://buff.ly/4f3INRb For those seeking support with Behavioral Health needs across all 88 counties of Ohio, the free and confidential website relink.org offers a wide range of resources. If you are NOT currently in a crisis, you are encouraged to explore the resources available on relink.org.

The state of mental health care in Arizona is harrowing, heartbreaking, and deeply concerning, ranking 49th in the nation for adults according to Mental Health America. Local advocacy groups and charity foundations are investing significant amounts of time, money, and resources into expanding services. But Arizonans seeking care continue to face barriers through no fault of their own. A growing body of evidence shows that integrating mental health into primary care increases access to services that improve clinical outcomes, increases patient satisfaction, and reduces costs. And evolvedMD is leading the way, expanding access to integrated services to over 2,350,000 Arizonans at their preferred primary care practice. Our unique approach is the best way for Arizonans and their families to get the care they deserve and live happier, healthier lives. If you're a primary care leader who wants to meet their patients' whole health needs—physical and mental health—partner with us today to combat the state's persisting mental health crisis. #IntegratedCare #Arizona #MentalHealthMatters #PrimaryCare

I called Gov Walz, Sen Erin Murphy and Rep Melissa Hortman this morning urging them to fix a cut to critical access funding scheduled to take effect Jan. 1, 2025. PLEASE DO THE SAME! The MN Mental Health provider community, and the low income families and kids and individuals with disabilities that we serve — NEED YOUR HELP and your voice on this important topic! Today, we are joining the MN National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) and other groups to make a push to call state leaders urging them to fix the upcoming rate cut and provide the much needed funding for mental health providers to do their work. 2 minutes of your time can make a world of difference! Please call: 1. MN Governor Tim Walz: 651-201-3400 2. Majority Leader Erin Murphy: 651-296-5931 3. Speaker Melissa Hortman: 651-296-4280 Message: We cannot wait to address the mental health crisis in Minnesota. We need you to raise the Health and Human Services budget target and fix the critical access rate cut this session. ✔️share your perspective as someone who works in behavioral health and to why this is important. ✔️share your perspective as someone who has been impacted by mental illness on why this is important. ✔️share your perspective as someone who cares about the health of our community and knows that cutting behavioral health care funding can lead to children and families are on months-long waitlists for services, people boarding in hospitals or languishing in jail. Providers are closing and Minnesotans are at the losing end of this lack of action by our leaders. Please share this with your networks and encourage others to contact leaders too. #mentalhealthmatters #MinnesotaMentalHealth #MentalHealthAdvocacy #MentalHealthLegislation

📰 Read the article: https://lnkd.in/eCpa69ew 🌟 In the tapestry of #MentalHealth, the concept of "Recovery" encapsulates a blend of aspiration and hope. Each individual's path is uniquely crafted, weaving stories of triumph, resilience, and unexpected victories. 💙 Why is understanding #recovery in Serious and Persistent Mental Illness (#SPMI) crucial? In #NewYork State alone, 846 thousand adults, approximately 5.4% of its population, navigate the challenges of SPMI. This goes beyond statistics, affecting #families, #communities, and the state budget through #homelessness and Medicaid. SPMI encompasses diagnoses like #Schizophrenia, #BipolarDisorder, #MajorDepression, #PTSD, and severe #OCD. 🌈 Unlike visible ailments, the #RecoveryJourney in SPMI resembles the aftermath of a stroke—uncertain, with progress concealed within the individual's experience. Aiming for personal potential, individuals face a lifetime of ups and downs, with relapses punctuating their progress. Recovery is an ongoing story with an open-ended destination. 🏛️ New York State's Office of Mental Health offers a lifeline through a spectrum of "recovery-oriented services." #Crisis services, hospital admissions, day programs, varying levels of #HousingSupport, and #CommunityBased care constitute the tools empowering individuals in their recovery journey. Families play a pivotal role by familiarizing themselves with these services, advocating for their loved ones with SPMI. 🙏 Humility is paramount in SPMI prognoses. The journey's trajectory remains uncertain, demanding collaboration between clinicians, patients, and families. Setbacks are inevitable, but collective #perseverance, regaining lost ground, and fostering #hope pave the way forward. "Recovery: An Ongoing Process, Not a Destination" By Barry B. See the latest explainer on #BehavioralHealth treatment and #Housing in California.
I’m really excited that this new resource is out in the world! California Health Care Foundation just published Behavioral Health Treatment Beds and Housing in California: An Explainer. California has invested a lot to expand access across the continuum of behavioral health care. But stakeholders often lack a comprehensive view of the range of options. The explainer maps out the continuums of behavioral health treatment beds and housing options for both mental health and substance use treatment, and shows how California's recent and proposed investments line up with the different levels of the continuum. We hope it will be helpful to you in your work! Big thanks to authors Kerry Landry and Ed Ortiz. https://lnkd.in/ecmCB_KZ

The New York Times recently highlighted a study of twins that further confirms our understanding of the long-term health effects of childhood trauma on individuals. For example, the study found that "a twin who reported maltreatment was 1.2 times as likely to suffer from a mental illness as the unaffected twin in identical twin pairs, and 1.7 times as likely in fraternal twin pairs." The study's findings also highlight the importance of investment in early prevention and trauma mitigation programs by adding to what Mark Bellis, a professor of public health at Liverpool John Moores University in Britain described as “the increasingly irrefutable evidence that it is going to cost us all a lot less if we invest in tackling” abuse and neglect of children now, rather than “continuing to pay for the epidemic levels of harm” they cause downstream.
