Remote roles are not all the same. There are different ways that companies manage remote work. Local, from home: - Everyone works within a short distance of the office. - Everyone works the same hours, according to HQ's time zone. - Communication is live, typically in video meetings. Distributed, one time zone: - Employees are distributed across different locations. - Everyone works the same hours, according to HQ's time zone. - Employees in different time zones might work early in the morning or late at night, to sync up with HQ's time zone. - Communication is live, typically in video meetings. Fully distributed, remote first: - Employees are distributed across different locations. - Employees set their own hours. - Communication is largely asynchronous, typically in written form. - The companies who do this well have it baked into their culture. For example, it becomes standard to specify a time zone when naming a time. Make sure you know which type of remote work a company supports when you're thinking of joining a remote company. #RemoteWork #Interviewing
