1 in 6 children and young people have a diagnosable mental health condition. ✨Children Mental Health Week✨ This years theme is ‘my voice matters’ and it’s about empowering young people and children by ensuring they have the knowledge and tools to express themselves. It’s about enabling children to talk about mental health when they’re young and providing them with resources and knowledge to know how to speak out about their mental health and who too- allowing them to feel heard and understood. Speaking about mental health ensures that children and young people understand that it’s ok to feel different emotions, recognise what these are and when they need to seek help and support. There’s such a lapse in support for our young people, especially in schools and those times where they need the access to support the most. Giving voice to our young people ensures they have the opportunity to speak out and express themselves. Giving voice gives them the right to be heard and offers opportunity for support. At a time when conversations around mental health are gaining momentum, it is crucial to extend the discourse to our younger generations. Teaching children to acknowledge their feelings, share their problems, and to not bear the burden alone is a lesson that they can carry through the rest of their lives. Whilst this is a positive improvement, it shows how far we still have to go. It is also important that those in these roles have the high quality training and support to succeed in these roles.

June is Men's Mental Health Month, but let’s remember that the men in our lives need support all year round. 🧠💙 We’re making strides in mental health awareness, with more people opening up and learning how to support each other. However, men’s mental health often goes underreported, and many men don’t seek the help they need. Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month shines a light on this important issue. Let’s use this time to encourage conversations and offer our support.
