In recognition of National Sorry Day on May 26th, we acknowledge the grief and suffering caused by past injustices. We reflect, apologise, and renew our commitment to healing and reconciliation with Indigenous Australians. Now more than ever, we recognise the importance of honouring the traditional custodians of our land. During National Reconciliation Week, we reflect on our shared history, acknowledge the enduring cultures of Indigenous Australians, and strive to foster a more inclusive and respectful society. #NRW #NationalReconciliationWeek #NationalSorryDay #NSD #Nowmorethanever

Past injustices, the loss of many lives and the erosion of culture since colonisation mark 26 January as a day of mourning for many First Nations communities. The date reminds us that this land was never ceded. It also reminds us that the legacy of colonisation and dispossession continues to have wide-ranging impacts on First Nations communities today. https://lnkd.in/gPiFpq6d

We have to do better. Make better decisions for the resources now, so we don’t have to clean up messes tomorrow. Erasure of tribal rights and histories has resulted in mass mismanagement of land and resources. “We simply didn’t know” is no longer an acceptable excuse. Horrible acts of colonialism occurred here and because those acts have never been addressed, they continue to occur to this day. Why are tribal cultural resource programs so busy? Because they are trying to undo everything that was done and stop it all from repeating itself. We work on a timeline of forever to benefit those not yet born. This is the oath we make as stewards of the land and the land never forgets.

Yesterday the Productivity Commission released its first review of the National Agreement on Closing the Gap. Key recommendations include: 1). Power needs to be shared, recognising the right that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have control over the decisions that affect their lives. 2). Recognise and support Indigenous data sovereignty. 3). Fundamentally rethink mainstream government systems and culture. 4). Implement stronger accountability. As an Indigenous designed, led, and owned platform, The Keeping Place is dedicated to Indigenous data sovereignty and Closing the Gap. Time to back something different - https://lnkd.in/gJZaMn3X
In the pursuit of justice and reconciliation, it's imperative to acknowledge the profound significance of Aboriginal Land Rights and Sovereignty. Indigenous communities, as the traditional custodians of their ancestral lands, hold a unique connection to Country. These rights, deeply rooted in culture and heritage, have been central to the struggle for recognition, self-determination, and the preservation of Indigenous knowledge. At The Keeping Place, we stand in solidarity with Indigenous communities, amplifying their voices and supporting their journey toward greater autonomy and sovereignty over their sacred lands. Together, we champion the cause of justice and the enduring legacy of Land Rights. 🔗 www.thekeepingplace.com #IndigenousLandRights #Sovereignty #CulturalHeritage #SelfDetermination #JusticeForAll

It is a simple enough rule but it is SO important if we are ever going to change the narrative and move closer to Indigenous/Canadian Reconciliation. Today, on National Sorry Day, we acknowledge the mistreatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples who were forcibly removed from their families and communities. On this date in 1997, the landmark Bringing them Home report was tabled in Parliament. This report shone a light on the experiences of survivors of laws and government policies that saw thousands of children forcibly removed from their families and communities. This historical injustice is still an ongoing source of intergenerational trauma and impacts on health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, communities and peoples. At HWQ we support truth-telling as part of the journey towards reconciliation. Read the truth of our history in the full report here - https://lnkd.in/gHiQs4HJ

Colonization touched everything - our families, our ways of thinking and being, and yes, even our ceremonies which is why I had to make this video. To help those just beginning on the Red Road before they get confused or discouraged.
