Did you know that in a new NREL study, researchers discovered that artificial intelligence could help the wind energy industry optimize its plant designs, increase revenue, and reduce land use? The team developed an AI-based model that analyzed simulations of over 250,000 wind energy plant layouts and conditions. With this data, the model can determine how to optimize a new wind energy plant to prioritize cost, energy production, or reduced land use. 💡 I found Heatmap News to be an excellent addition to my daily #energynews feed 🗒 . The articles are concise and relevant. Special shoutout to the Emily Pontecorvo for today's article on top 10 make-or-break projects for the energy transition "These 10 projects represent the spectrum of solutions that could enable a transition to a carbon-free energy system. The list includes vastly scaled up versions of mature technologies like wind and solar power alongside the traditional energy infrastructure necessary to move that power around. Many of the most experimental or first-of-a-kind projects on this list are competing to play the role of “clean firm” power on the grid of the future." https://lnkd.in/dTqvXxXS

What is blue energy? Better than both photovoltaics and wind Blue energy refers to the renewable energy harnessed from oceans and seas. This includes wave energy, tidal energy, ocean thermal energy, and salinity gradient energy. The theoretical potential of blue energy is enormous, estimated at up to 2.64 trillion kilowatt hours (kWh) per year in the United States alone. #blueenergy #greenenergy #sustainableenergy #cleanenergy #futureenergy

Harness the Power of the Ocean Waves!🌊🌊 Wave energy is a highly promising renewable resource for powering marine buoys and distributed offshore systems. Compared to solar and wind power, wave energy offers: 🌊 Higher power density (2-3 kW/m2 vs 0.1-0.2 kW/m2 for solar) 🌊 More consistent availability (up to 90% of the time in the UK vs 20-30% for solar/wind) 🌊 Better compatibility with the compact form factor of marine buoys Wave energy technologies like triboelectric nanogenerators can efficiently capture this "native" ocean energy and convert it into reliable electricity for powering smart, connected marine monitoring systems. Learn more about the advantages of wave energy buoys: https://lnkd.in/dUUsrkx6 #WaveEnergy #MarineBuoys #RenewableEnergy #OffshoreMonitoring #CleanTech

Weekly power simulation, week 11 of 2024 No such thing as perfect in the energy system - it's all trade offs and balances... HOWEVER, last week was pretty darn near perfect in our simulation. Wind and solar directly made up 97.2% of Danish power demand, but when adding storage and demand-side flexibility, Denmark was powered by 100% solar and wind last week! 97.2% renewable share year-to-date. ----- Each week, I run a simulation using real-world generation data from the Danish power grid, with #windenergy and #solarenergy scaled to match future (2033) capacities, as forecasted by the Danish Energy Agency. See earlier posts by searching for #WeeklyPowerSimulation The original idea for such a simplified, but very illustrative, simulation is David Osmond's from Australian Windlab. Weekly power simulation, week 24 of 2024 For six weeks in a row, Denmark has been powered by 100% wind and solar energy, recalling the four hour shortfall on May 8th, where thermal generation or imports had to step in. Honestly, I think this six-week streak may continue for a while, noting the strong nexus of storage and solar in the summer time 😎 ----- Each week, I run a simulation using real-world generation data from the Danish power grid, with #windenergy and #solarenergy scaled to match future (2033) capacities, as forecasted by the Danish Energy Agency. Battery Expert, Deputy Director of the China Energy Storage Association, extensive knowledge in battery health and energy storage safety
🌍 The Internet and renewable energy sources are poised to catalyze a shift known as the Third Industrial Revolution. Within this context, energy storage plays a pivotal role. Starting from the first principles of physics, we can establish the following three assumptions: 👉 1. Renewable Energy: Renewable energy sources such as photovoltaic and wind power will gradually become the primary sources of energy supply. Power generation will evolve from centralized to a coexistence of centralized and distributed generation. 👉2. Microgrids: The integration of distributed renewable energy sources with energy storage will create intelligent microgrids, empowered by digital technologies to become predictable and dispatchable power sources. 👉3. New Electricity: Microgrids must integrate with the main power grid, jointly supporting the charging of electric vehicles powered by renewable energy sources, forming a new type of power system for the future economic and social landscape, referred to as the New Electricity. #energystorage #battery #renewableenergy #sustainability

Weekly power simulation, week 28 of 2024 A pretty trivial week, with low winds, high solar output. Power-to-X running at 58%, which is O-K, I guess, but by no means impressive. Still, 100% renewable power to cover the load. ----- Each week, I run a simulation using real-world generation data from the Danish power grid, with #windenergy and #solarenergy scaled to match future (2033) capacities, as forecasted by the Danish Energy Agency.
