A new Onyx Insight report, titled Ever-Changing Wind, provides insights into the wind industry for 2024 and beyond.   In developing the report, 40 key industry players who own and operate wind turbines were interviewed. Key challenges identified include supply chain, skilled labour, and turbine reliability issues, concerning ageing and new turbines. The report also discusses opportunities for future innovation, including within automation and sensor technology. We continuously invest in technology and automation and take a collaborative approach to developing innovative solutions so as a manufacturing partner in the wind blade supply chain, this report makes for very interesting reading. Weekly power simulation, week 11 of 2024 No such thing as perfect in the energy system - it's all trade offs and balances... HOWEVER, last week was pretty darn near perfect in our simulation. Wind and solar directly made up 97.2% of Danish power demand, but when adding storage and demand-side flexibility, Denmark was powered by 100% solar and wind last week! 97.2% renewable share year-to-date. ----- Each week, I run a simulation using real-world generation data from the Danish power grid, with #windenergy and #solarenergy scaled to match future (2033) capacities, as forecasted by the Danish Energy Agency. Weekly power simulation, week 24 of 2024 For six weeks in a row, Denmark has been powered by 100% wind and solar energy, recalling the four hour shortfall on May 8th, where thermal generation or imports had to step in. 🌍 The Internet and renewable energy sources are poised to catalyze a shift known as the Third Industrial Revolution. Within this context, energy storage plays a pivotal role. Starting from the first principles of physics, we can establish the following three assumptions: 👉 1. Renewable Energy: Renewable energy sources such as photovoltaic and wind power will gradually become the primary sources of energy supply. Power generation will evolve from centralized to a coexistence of centralized and distributed generation. 👉2. Microgrids: The integration of distributed renewable energy sources with energy storage will create intelligent microgrids, empowered by digital technologies to become predictable and dispatchable power sources. 👉3. New Electricity: Microgrids must integrate with the main power grid, jointly supporting the charging of electric vehicles powered by renewable energy sources, forming a new type of power system for the future economic and social landscape, referred to as the New Electricity. #energystorage #battery #renewableenergy #sustainability
