𝗗𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗠𝗶𝘀𝘀 𝗢𝘂𝘁: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵’𝘀 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻!
𝘔𝘪𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘥 𝘪𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘪𝘳𝘴𝘵 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦? No worries—I’m sharing this again because it’s too important to overlook!
I had the incredible opportunity to sit down with Mike Korchinsky, President and Founder of Wildlife Works , to discuss the crucial role the Global South plays in the carbon market. From Indigenous communities to local landowners, we are not just participants—we are leaders shaping the future of global climate action.
𝗜𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝘄𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗲:
1. The challenges we face as Global South voices in a space often dominated by the Global North.
2. Carbon markets as a driver to socio-economic empowerment for marginalized communities.
3. Why the Global South must have a seat at the table in global carbon market decisions.
4. Why amplifying our stories, our successes, and our solutions is critical to ensuring a fair and just carbon market.
The immense impact of the carbon market on rural Indigenous communities cannot be ignored!. The carbon market isn't just about reducing emissions—it's about 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀, 𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲, and 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝘀𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 for generations to come.
Its imperative to note that these communities are not just benefitting; they are 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 and 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗻𝗲𝘁-𝘇𝗲𝗿𝗼.
We are not just stakeholders; we are leaders in climate action, and we must be involved in the continuous improvement of the carbon market to make it more transparent, accountable, and with more integrity.
𝗥𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗻𝗲𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝗻 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁, but with each step forward, we solidify the foundation for a future that benefits everyone.

🌍 Local Actions, Global Impact: Communities Leading the Charge Against Climate Change
🌱Around the world, communities are stepping up with innovative solutions to tackle climate change, proving that local actions can drive global progress.
In British Columbia, nearly $72 million is being invested in community projects through the Local Government Climate Action Program to reduce emissions and transition to clean energy.
Across the European Union, the Communities for Climate initiative supports citizen-driven projects focused on renewable energy and biodiversity conservation.
In Canada, a $530 million investment through the Green Municipal Fund is helping municipalities build resilient infrastructure to adapt to climate change.
These initiatives underscore the power of grassroots action in creating sustainable futures. By empowering local leaders with resources and support, we can foster innovation and resilience at every level.
Let's continue to champion these efforts and inspire broader change worldwide!

Our reliance on nature is absolute.
The codependence of #Biodiversity and climate means action on each needs to be strategically coordinated. Natural Climate Solutions (NCS) are a promising set of solutions which can reduce global carbon emissions and, in some instances, also reduce #Biodiversity loss. Human society can no longer afford to choose between its progress and environmental sustainability.
Today, the imperative is clear: The world must invest in and work with nature to address both the climate and #Biodiversity crises, for the sake of current and future generations.
Find out more in the report by The Nature Conservancy and the UBS #Sustainability and Impact Institute, which outlines the benefits of NCS, the barriers to scaling them, and key actions to overcome these barriers:

💡 FACT: A significant gap exists in financing nature-based carbon removal despite its potential as a climate change solution.
Increasing private investment into natural climate solutions (NCS) is vital to addressing climate, biodiversity, and land degradation challenges. 📈 🌳
Investors have a unique opportunity to accelerate the trend towards high-integrity NCS projects, sending market signals that elevate quality standards and reinforce demand for NCS-based carbon credits.
The Natural Climate Solutions Alliance published an investor guide to simplify the investment process for natural climate solutions in the voluntary carbon market in six steps.
