Love the idea of the triple nexus, Humanitarian-Development-Peace, as it is the answer going forward when responding to crises. It is about responding to people’s urgent needs, while helping them build their resilience to be part of their own solutions, including a sustainable conflict prevention. Yet, in practice, implementing the triple nexus is far more difficult than what it seems. It demands that as humanitarians, we are open to think “outside the box” and work with new and non-traditional actors.

It's everyone's duty to help vulnerable communities. By coming together and working with others, we can make positive changes in the lives of those who need it most. The question is: are you ready to join in this mission?

Given our mandate to work with the private sector before, during, and after emergencies, CBi naturally reflects - and operates in - what we at the UN call "the Humanitarian-Development-Peace Nexus". It's a mouthful, but it's really all about ensuring a continuity of support delivered to people affected by crises, from disaster response to recovery, for greater community resilience. Even if behind the scenes the work is shared between different agencies. It's why CBi works so closely with both United Nations OCHA and UNDP. As we rise to meet the challenges of our rapidly changing world, I am continually looking at United Way’s interconnected network - of community members, partners, donors, volunteers, policymakers, and advocates - and seeing possibility and opportunity. With more than 1,000 local United Ways, our power lies in diverse ideas, creative programs, and innovative solutions. The good news: There's no problem a local United Way faces that another local United Way in our global system hasn't already solved. When we replicate these successes and bring them to scale, we can address our communities’ most critical challenges so all may thrive.
