Former Surgeon General Jerome Adams gave this advice at McKinsey & Company for post-covid recovery: "I would encourage you to think about appointing a #mentalhealth and #wellnesschampion. Every single company is going to have someone who is their point person for COVID-19. If we are #proactive about it at work and if we create an atmosphere where we can talk about 'how can we be healthy? how can we build #resilience? how can we #preventburnout?'—and not just 'what do we do once someone’s burned out?'—then I think we’ll be in a better place." Coach Aparna Arvind MD MBA PCC and I will be hosting another webinar to discuss #BuildingResilience4Burnout and how to be proactive in keeping #mentalfitness top of the agenda on March 12th. Limiting Belief Series- "I Don’t Have Time" – When Life Feels Too Busy for Healing ⏳ One of the most common beliefs that keeps people from seeking help for substance use and mental health challenges is, “I don’t have time.” And while it might feel valid in our fast-paced, always-on world, this belief is a major barrier to real and lasting change. Think about it: when we say “I don’t have time,” what we’re really saying is, “I’ll keep managing this on my own until… things calm down, work eases up, or life gets simpler.” But in reality, life rarely slows down on its own. If anything, unresolved struggles build up, affecting work, relationships, and well-being, costing more time and energy in the long run. Here’s why this mindset can be dangerous: Your Health is Your Foundation – If you’re not taking care of your mental and physical health, everything else becomes harder to sustain. Healing isn’t just about recovery; it’s about building a strong, lasting foundation for every part of your life. Stress Doesn’t Just Go Away – Substance use and mental health challenges often intensify over time. Taking the time for treatment now can prevent escalating issues that could cost much more time down the road. Investing in You Saves Time Later – Getting the right support early can help you build skills to handle stress, avoid setbacks, and lead a more productive, fulfilling life. Waiting only prolongs the path to wellness. If you or someone you know is thinking, “I don’t have time” to start treatment, challenge that thought. Time spent on recovery is an investment in your future well-being, productivity, and happiness. Taking that step now can make all the difference. Make time for you – you’re worth it. I provide organizations with motivational and inspiring speaking, leadership development in relationship management, supervisor trainings, grief education and chaplain support.
I was recently featured on a webinar with a chaplain care team and was aksed how I incorporate emotional intelligence into my patient care. This was my response: "I prioritize my emotional well-being by practicing self-care, such as prayer, mindfulness and decompression after stressful interactions. I set healthy emotional boundaries, stay present but detach after my work, and lean on my support network for guidance. When necessary, I seek professional support to prevent burnout and regularly reflect on my experiences for personal growth." How do you keep from going over the edge as a healthcare professional? #ataloss #professionalintegrity #medicalteamresilience

Feeling burnt out, but don’t feel like there’s time for therapy? I hear this so often, especially from healthcare professionals. You're constantly giving to others, leaving little energy (or time) to give to yourself. It feels impossible to slow down when the demands of your work are so intense. Maybe it just feels daunting to find a therapist and give them a call. It's worth it! (My very bias opinion) It doesn't have to be forever; give yourself a certain amount of sessions (maybe 6-12) and see if it is worth it to you. Therapy can allow you to make time to reconnect with yourself and your loved ones, even in the chaos. When burnout takes hold, it impacts everything: your work, your relationships, your health. Therapy can be that space where you pause, breathe, and unpack the weight you’ve been carrying. If you’re feeling burnt out and struggling to find balance, I invite you to take that first step toward healing. Your well-being matters just as much as the care you provide. **** Steps down from soap box******

As someone who revels in #publichealth literature, seeing the use of the socio-ecological model for #burnoutprevention is exciting. We've been hearing for some time that burnout cannot be solved by individual actions like self-care, but rather needs to be addressed at the organizational level. But where do you start? This model provides a multilevel framework for addressing burnout and increasing resiliency in the workplace, acknowledging that interactions between individuals and their environment are reciprocal. #burnout #workplacewellbeing #resiliency #humanbehavior #work
