✅ 13 EU countries implement systematic Green Budget Tagging, like Columbia, Mexico, etc. ☑ India seems like it has started since 2023-2024 budget (as a way to implement its National Adaptation Plan). 😑 USA do not, even though Biden administration reports on budget allocation to climate commitments. 😶 China do not, even though Climate action is mainstreamed in planning, including performance indicators. ➡ it would be good to have countries with highest carbon footprint per capita implement this systematically, whatever the political incumbents. ➡ global study on trends will be soon possible (but challenging, given that methodologies for climate or green budget tagging vary significantly).

A PEFA Secretariat presentation ( https://lnkd.in/e2RrtZH8 ) summarizes in 13 slides the limited readiness of public financial management systems 🌎🌍🌏 to address the climate-related challenges 🌪️⛈️☀️🌊. On average, the countries which undertook a PEFA Climate assessment, including some of the most exposed to climate change, are scored between C "Initial efforts have taken place to mainstream climate change issues and policy response in the relevant PFM institutions, processes, or systems" and D "Performance is less than required for a C score" 🤦🏼. Lots of other interesting findings 🕵🏿 in the presentation that will make a good quick read for your weekend 🤓📚. Well done, Holy-Tiana Razafimahefa Rame 👩🏻🔬!

🌏⚖ How are countries integrating #justice principles into domestic climate action? A new study by the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change & the Environment at #LSE reviewed 159 policies across 61 countries and the EU that include references to a just, fair, equitable, and inclusive transition. Here, co-authors Jodi-Ann Jue Xuan Wang and Tiffanie Chan share their findings and explain why pursuing transformative change must entail policy pathways that redress existing structures of inequality.
