By acting together, we achieve more.
Info
The NDC Partnership brings together more than 200 members, including more than 115 countries, developed and developing, and more than 80 institutions to create and deliver on ambitious climate action that help achieve the Paris Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Governments identify their NDC implementation priorities and the type of support that is needed to translate them into actionable policies and programs. Based on these requests, the membership offers a tailored package of expertise, technical assistance, and funding. This collaborative response provides developing countries with efficient access to a wide range of resources to adapt to and mitigate climate change and foster more equitable and sustainable development. This page is administered by the NDC Partnership Support Unit, based at World Resources Institute in Washington and the UNFCCC in Bonn. Visit our website at www.ndcpartnership.org.

How to convince a "shark" to invest in climate action 🦈 UNEP Copenhagen Climate Centre provides technical assistance to #Belize to improve private sector investments for #climateaction, with support from the NDC Partnership. This week's training included an engaging “shark tank” activity, where groups pitched their investment ideas to a panel. While the investments were hypothetical, participants gained critical experience and valuable lessons on strengthening their proposals and approaching financial considerations for successful project implementation. The Improving Private Sector Investment for Climate Action in Belize project maps national needs and priorities for #climate action and identifies challenges, gaps and needs related to climate change and investments. The findings are used to prioritize climate actions relevant for private sector investments, and to design financial support mechanisms in support of #privatesector investments to support the implementation of Belize's #NDC. Through the project UNEP Copenhagen Climate Centre is also enhancing capacities of national institutions and private sector stakeholders to leverage concessional climate finance to facilitate climate investments through blended finance approaches. 👉Read more here: https://lnkd.in/dMzuxxNa

Climate action is social protection! 🌎 Climate change is altering the types of risks people face, making social protection crucial for managing these risks. Social protection systems can identify and support those affected, build their resilience, and enhance their abilities to reduce emissions and adapt. Therefore, social protection needs to be integrated within the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs): 1️⃣ To ensure climate action is successful and inclusive. 2️⃣ To leverage your country's social protection system to assess, identify, and address people's vulnerabilities and needs to ensure they benefit from climate action. 3️⃣Social protection systems provide a foundation for addressing the long-term social, economic, and environmental challenges posed by the climate crisis. With #NDCs 3.0, countries receive practical advice and consultation options from the NDC Partnership, United Nations, and other partners to integrate social protection into their climate action. #ClimateAction #SocialProtection Read more ⬇️

Countries are increasingly engaging with the NDC Partnership to not only plan and implement their #NDCs but also track and communicate their progress through robust reporting. A critical area of reporting-related support is the preparation of their Biennial Transparency Reports (BTRs). Given its relevance to NDC reporting, the NDC Partnership has been deeply involved in guiding countries through the BTR process to ensure accurate reporting that captures countries’ progress and informs their next steps. In March 2024, the NDC Partnership co-organized a training workshop in Singapore to support 15 Asian countries in preparing their BTRs by the year-end deadline. Hosted by the Government of Singapore, the workshop provided participants with essential skills and knowledge. Training was delivered by Singapore’s National Climate Change Secretariat, Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the UNFCCC secretariat, NAP Global Network and the NDC Partnership Support Unit, building regional capacity and fostering knowledge exchange. NDC Partnership member 🇨🇺 Cuba submitted its NDC 3.0, pledging to generate 26% of its electricity from #RenewableEnergy by 2035. It also aims to cut potential biomethane emissions from sugar distilleries by 50% by 2035, using 2030 as the baseline.

NDC Partnership member, the 🇲🇭 Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI), has submitted its NDC 3.0, committing to at least a 58% reduction in #GHG emissions below 2010 levels by 2035. The country is accelerating its shift from fossil fuels, enhancing resilience and strengthening its response to loss and damage. Recognizing the vital role of women and youth in this transition, the country is launching the Outer Islands Solar Training for Women program — supported by funding from the Government of Canada through the NDC Partnership. RMI developed its NDC 3.0 with support available through the Global Call for NDCs 3.0 & LT-LEDS, with additional backing from the Partnership Action Fund. The NDC Partnership In-Country Facilitator helped coordinate stakeholder consultations. #ClimateAction #NDCs #RenewableEnergy #EnergyTransition

#COP29 in Baku, #Azerbaijan, concluded with governments agreeing on a new collective quantified goal (NCQG) for climate finance, replacing a previous goal of mobilizing $100 billion per year to address the needs of developing countries. While the NCQG decision represents increased ambition and climate finance flows have increased in recent years, they remain far below what is needed — particularly for Least Developed Countries and Small Island Developing States. To support countries in setting up and effectively operating Climate Finance Units (CFUs), the Center for Access to Climate Finance released a new Policy Brief offering practical guidance through actionable recommendations. The Brief provides insights from CFUs already in place across multiple countries, including 🇧🇩 Bangladesh, 🇧🇿 Belize, 🇫🇯 Fiji, 🇰🇪 Kenya, 🇲🇿 Mozambique, 🇷🇼 Rwanda and 🇺🇬 Uganda. Case studies highlight real-world success factors such as strong mandates, cross-government coordination and alignment with national climate priorities, including NDCs. Examples demonstrate how CFUs play a vital role in mobilizing and managing climate finance and are important vehicles to attract additional investment from public and private sources.
