📢 NEW LAUNCH | Enabling framework conditions (EFCs) are vital for scaling national and subnational climate finance. They provide regulatory clarity, enhance institutional capacity, mitigate investment risks, promote stakeholder engagement, and improve access to finance, thus supporting long-term sustainability. The CCFLA/#UrbanAct Assessment Tool is designed to help governments improve their access to climate finance by evaluating their enabling framework conditions (EFCs). 🔗 Learn more about the tools and download, here: https://bit.ly/EFCs Further information is also available at United Nations ESCAP’s Inclusive, Low Carbon, Resilient, Smart and Sustainable Cities: https://lnkd.in/gFiNgqEX #UrbanAct #UrbanClimateFinance #NetZeroCities #EFCs #EnablingFrameworkConditions #SustainableCities #GreenGrowth #ClimateAction #MultiLevelClimateAction Jessie Press-Williams Priscilla Negreiros Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH International Climate Initiative Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) TU Dortmund University University of Stuttgart

The Future of Climate Finance The Bonn Climate Conference (SB60) recently wrapped up, and a key area of discussion was the New Collective Quantified Goal on Climate Finance (NCQG). This new goal aims to significantly increase financial resources for developing countries to tackle climate change. Why is this important? - Developed countries currently provide ~$100 billion annually for climate action in developing countries. Experts say this amount falls far short of what's needed. - The NCQG has the potential to unlock much-needed resources to help developing nations adapt to climate change and transition to clean energy. What does this mean for businesses? 1. Increased climate finance could create new investment opportunities in clean technologies and sustainable infrastructure projects. 2. Businesses can get ahead of the curve by integrating climate action into their strategies and exploring these potential opportunities. What are your thoughts on the NCQG? #earnmoreconsultants #sustainabilitymatters #earnmoreinsights #businesssustainability #earnmore4climate #sustainableworkspaces

The just transition encapsulates a transformative vision that embeds developing countries’ right to development, livelihood and resilience (social, economic and ecological). - Taking this vision forward, the Taskforce on Net Zero Policy released the report, "Interconnected justice". - This report provides normative proposals on how to widen policymakers’ and NSAs’ approach when addressing the question of justice in climate and nature transition policies. - It aims to support policymakers in developing NSA policies and enhance the integrity of NSA justice commitments in an increasingly interconnected world. Highlights: ● The interconnected nature of the global just transition to low emissions and climate-resilient development. ● How NSA policies can influence NSA activity towards greater interconnected justice outcomes. ● How local, national and supranational policymakers can enhance multi-actor dialogue towards stronger interconnected justice outcomes. It aims to support policymakers in developing NSA policies and enhance the integrity of NSA justice commitments in an increasingly interconnected world. Full report attached. 🌏⚖ How are countries integrating #justice principles into domestic climate action? A new study by the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change & the Environment at #LSE reviewed 159 policies across 61 countries and the EU that include references to a just, fair, equitable, and inclusive transition. Here, co-authors Jodi-Ann Jue Xuan Wang and Tiffanie Chan share their findings and explain why pursuing transformative change must entail policy pathways that redress existing structures of inequality. Insightful report: 8 EU Policy Priorities for Global Decarbonization The EU can leverage its experience in carbon pricing to advance ETS implementation globally. A global expansion of well-designed national and regional Emissions Trading Systems (ETSs) can effectively curb emissions across sectors, helping many interested countries and regions achieve global net-zero targets and generate revenue to support affected sectors and groups through the transition. #carbonmarket
❓How to combine European Industrial Leadership with Climate Leadership❓ During his opening address Jos Delbeke, European Investment Bank (EIB) Chair on Climate Change Policy, highlighted the need for the EU to pursue ambitious climate action and international collaboration: "We have to go for radical investments in low-carbon technologies!" An excellent event to launch a new report by Future Matters that applied a systematic strategic prioritisation framework to identify the most impactful climate policies the EU should pursue in the areas of energy, industry, and food systems. Among them: Boosting funding and ensuring science-based regulation of #alternativeproteins to make #plantbased, #fermentation-based, and #cultivatedmeat affordable and delicious across the world! Super impressed by the depth and breadth of the analysis conducted by Janina Hennigfeld, Carl Frederick Luthin, Vegard Beyer and many others! 🔥Another terrific release from NYC Climate Week! A powerful and practical report on the whole-of-system change required to deliver the climate transition. Taking the lead on climate action and sustainable development is a guide from CETEx (Centre for Economic Transition Expertise) authored by a number of leading lights in sustainable finance including: Mark Manning, Perrine Toledano, Lisa Sachs, Riona Bowhay, Tom Tayler, Agnieszka (Aga) Smoleńska, PhD, Megan Bowman, FIONA STEWART, Peter Knaack, Harald Walkate The report advocates for government leadership at the centre of a whole-of-system response to the urgent challenges of climate change and sustainable development. It recognizes that government policy is critical to drive private sector action and shows how governments can seize the opportunity to take targeted action and catalyse positive tipping points. The report develops a set of principles-based recommendations for national transition planning - reinterpreting the frameworks of Transition Plan Taskforce (TPT) Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero (GFANZ) for a national-level context, and also drawing insights from the Transition Pathway Initiative (TPI) ASCOR. 🔗The policy report is available at: https://lnkd.in/e8grx3GA 🔗It is accompanied by a handbook of detailed guidance, examples, case studies and resources, available at: https://lnkd.in/ep8wzc9x #NYClimateWeek #ClimateActionNow #SustainableFinance #NetZeroTransition #ClimateLeadership #GovernmentPolicy #SystemicChange #SustainableDevelopment #TransitionPlanning #GFANZ #TPT #ESG #ClimateTransition #PublicPrivatePartnership #FutureOfFinance

Today, over 400 scientists sent an open letter to political parties, asking them to take more urgent and credible action on climate change. They argue that the UK cannot insulate itself from the impacts of climate change abroad, and that investments to accelerate UK climate change action will bring social, economic and health benefits. They are asking party leaders to pledge to the following: 1. A credible and legal strategy to meet the 2050 net zero target. 2. To accelerate action and become more resilient to the impacts that we can now not avoid 3. To act on and respect the advice of independent Climate Change Committee, which includes not opening new north sea oil fields 4. To lead by example internationally 5. An increase in public and private funding for climate change mitigation and adaptation in developing countries With manifestos currently or shortly being published, it will be interesting to see how the parties fare against these recommendations. This letter isn't a long read - 14 of the 16 pages are signatures from highly credible people. Take a look, if this is of interest to you. #ClimatePolicy #Manifestos #GeneralElection https://lnkd.in/euTq9meC
