In order to become a commercial airline pilot there are multiple things you need to accomplish and ratings you need to achieve. First off there are two different routes you can take to get your training: part 61 or 141 flight school. Part 141 schools are attached to a bachelor's degree and part 61 schools are at your own pace school. No matter what type of school you go to you will need to get several ratings before airlines will hire you. These in order are, Private pilots, instrument, commercial, and ATP. In order to get your ATP you need to have 1,500 hours in a part 61 school or 1,000 hours in a 141 school. The hard part of becoming an airline pilot is building your flight hours. There are multiple different ways to build hours but the most common Is becoming a flight instructor. To be a flight instructor you need to get your CFI and CFII licenses. You can also be a skydive pilot, banner tow pilot, or even buy your plane and go flying. Becoming a pilot is very rewarding but will take lots of time, dedication, and money. I am looking forward to making my way up to the major airlines. I plan on going to a part 61 school and getting an AMP mechanics license as well. #nebointerns #utahcteinternships #internships #shhsinterns

Connecting Aviation to Early Career Exploration At the 2024 New York Airport Management Association (NYAMA) conference, I discussed workforce development, focusing on the generational shift impacting today's workplace. The networking opportunities opened doors to conversations on how aviation organizations can team up with BOCES organizations in their area to introduce students to the multiple career opportunities with airports and related industries. It was relevant to share that SUNY continues to have an appropriate place in workforce development. Their proactive approach to developing micro-credentials, badges, and certificates allows students with scarce financial resources to afford the programs. It gives them the tools to enter the workforce and pursue career advancement using employers' tuition reimbursement and other economic resources. Most importantly, I had the opportunity to highlight ideas for all employers to engage with BOCES efforts. I shared a checklist of multiple opportunities for early workforce development and proudly praised my organization by saying: "In New York State, you have a BOCES organization near you with a proven long-term record of technical education and workforce development results. It is in the best interest of employers to find ways to connect the dots with classroom presence, internships, mentorships, and summer jobs." I was fortunate to count on Walter Constantini, The Director of Aviation at Mohawk Community College, who discussed the contrast between the demand for aviation workers and the supply. In his exciting remarks, he also shared that the skills that prepare a student for aviation mechanics are the same for other industries, such as amusement park equipment. Therefore, not only are we behind in catching up to the aviation mechanic's gap, but the industry also competes with other organizations that recruit from the same graduate pool. I am a proud member of the NYAMA Academic Committee and extend my genuine appreciation for the opportunity to join this organization and share with those in attendance the benefits of supporting BOCES in their communities.

The Future of Aviation Starts With Us! ✈️ It's clear that the aviation industry is facing a talent gap, especially when it comes to attracting young talent. But how can we make aviation appealing to the next generation? Here are some thoughts on how to bridge this gap. First, companies should leverage technology and social media to showcase the exciting opportunities available in aviation. By offering virtual reality tours of cockpit experiences or behind-the-scenes looks at airport operations, we can demonstrate the dynamic and innovative nature of the industry. Highlighting achievements of young professionals within the sector can also serve as an inspiration. 🌟 Additionally, internships and apprenticeships play a crucial role. These programmes provide first hand experience and engage young minds directly with the practical aspects of aviation. Partnering with educational institutions to offer scholarships and specialised courses can help in building a skilled workforce from an early age. According to the UK Department for Transport, there's been a 20% increase in engineering apprenticeships over the past year, showing that the interest is there—we just need to direct it into aviation. Finally, creating a supportive and inclusive work environment is essential. Young people today value diversity and inclusion, and they want to work for companies that share these values. By promoting a culture that celebrates differences and encourages creative thinking, aviation companies can attract a diverse range of talented individuals who are eager to innovate and drive the industry forward. 🌍 Let's make the skies more inviting for the next generation of aviation professionals! 🚀 #AviationCareers #FutureOfFlight #AviationInnovation

As graduation season approaches, one can't help but reflect on the past. It's been a while since I graduated from the University of Cincinnati. Looking back, I realize how much that internship at Delta Air Lines sparked my interest in the aviation industry. From there, I've been fortunate enough to work in various roles at different airlines. One of my fondest memories was visiting Wheels Up Wheels Up Private Jets and learning about the private jet industry. It was an amazing experience that reminded me why I love this industry so much; it's constantly evolving, which keeps it exciting. #aviationindustry #keepclimbing

Meet Khadiija Mohamed 23, Revenue Protection Officer, London Bridge: I started working part-time with an agency on the railway as something to supplement my university studies. Working in passenger assist, I enjoyed going out and about all over the network and quickly became a team leader. I loved the responsibility I had, and I loved working, so I decided to leave university and work in the railway full-time. What I enjoyed most about my apprenticeship was the chance to reflect on my learning. I could think about what I was doing well in my job and what I would do differently next time. You don’t often get that chance for self-reflection, and you don’t realise how many skills you are learning as you go! My Team Leader Charlie was particularly supportive and got involved in helping me with tasks. I was really surprised at how manageable it was to fit around my job. Everything we were doing within the apprenticeship we were also doing on the job, so I could progress quickly and complete it during my working hours. I liked that I had to provide evidence of my learning because it held me accountable and meant that the end, I felt like I had accomplished something. Not only did completing my apprenticeship give me the job in the railway that I really wanted, in a role that suited me, but it also helped me grow as a person. It was an opportunity to look at the things I knew I wasn’t naturally good at and it helped me learn the skills and confidence to be good at them. If you’re thinking about doing an apprenticeship, why not? It is there for your self-development and will give you an extra qualification in your working hours. #nationalapprenticeshipweek #railwayjobs

Congratulations to Domanick Hamilton on his SkillBridge/CSP internship with Job Aire Group Inc.!!! 👏👏 Q: Why did you choose this internship? A: I chose Job Aire Group Inc. because my passion is working on planes, and this company will help me accomplish my goal of getting my A&P license. A: Through this internship I want to learn more about the commercial side of aircraft maintenance and eventually come out with my A&P license. Q: How did HireMilitary help you? A: HireMilitary had a wide variety of options when I was looking for different jobs. So I applied for something that sparked my interest, and Amber quickly responded to get the process started.
