Today at 3pm, EESI and American Rivers will present a briefing on the state of dam infrastructure in the United States. There are more than half a million dams in rivers across the country that were built for various purposes, ranging from powering factories to irrigating croplands. Of the dams in the National Inventory, 85 percent have outlived their expected lifespan. Experts will discuss the options dam owners have to manage this infrastructure challenge, including dam removal. Panelists: 🦦 Tom Kiernan, President and CEO, American Rivers 🦦 Malcolm Woolf, President and CEO, National Hydropower Association 🦦 Kayed Lakhia, Director, FEMA National Dam Safety Program 🦦 Siva Sundaresan, Deputy Director, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) 🦦 David Gould, Director, Plymouth Department of Marine and Environmental Affairs We will also feature introductory remarks by Rep. Ann Kuster (D-N.H.) Watch it live: eesi.org/livecast #Dams #Infrastructure #Rivers #RiverRestoration #Webinar

Innovator/Patent Holder of Kinetic, Wind& Wave Energy Converters. Patented Motion activated, Self sustaining built-in Battery Charger for EVs/Marine vessels &Towerless Wind Turbines for Rooftops and Ship's Bridge
Deployment of wave energy converters [WECs] operating under low intensity and amplitude waves over lakes, rivers waterways, dams and reservoirs is an added feature to the power grid. This patented "DRY" WEC described here is suitable for that tasks. "DRY", because it is NEVER in direct contact with water. [ See Comment below for details ]

Over the course of the next decade, the Coldwater Connection Campaign will utilize $19 million of federal investment provided by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the Inflation Reduction Act to reconnect 125 miles of wild steelhead and salmon spawning and rearing habitat on Washington’s Olympic Peninsula. The partnership has spent years working to identify the most impactful culverts blocking fish migration and are now hiring local contractors to remove barriers and replace them with better structures that will help struggling steelhead and salmon populations and provide durable road infrastructure for local communities. TU’s Luke Kelly explains: “Many of these culverts were placed 50 or 60 years ago without thought put into hydrology and fluctuating river flows. This area is a rainforest, and we can see river flows increase 5,000 percent or more in just 24 hours. Flows like that going through an undersized culvert can cause entire road segments to wash into the stream.” Construction kicked off this summer on Wisen Creek, an important tributary of the Sol Duc River, where Trout Unlimited replaced three high-priority culverts identified by the Coldwater Connection Campaign. A new article from NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration highlights this critical work and the partnerships that are making it possible.

RE: “OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA, Feb. 29, 2024 --The Pacific Institute, a US-based global water think tank, in partnership with 2NDNATURE today released a new national assessment finding substantial opportunities for expanded stormwater capture and use approaches to improve water resilience in urban areas across the United States. The pivotal study quantifies the volumetric potential of stormwater runoff in urban areas, finding 59.5 million acre-feet per year (AFY) of urban stormwater runoff is generated, exceeding earlier estimates. This is equivalent to an annual average of more than 53 billion gallons per day.” ~Yo...Pacific Institute we agree and we have a proven solution!
