Doctor: Is anyone blind in your family? Patient: Eh! God forbid. I reject it in Jesus Name. It is not my portion. I cancel every... 😅😅Relax naw. It's just a simple harmless question. 💃🏼💃🏼 Today, we will be talking about the essence of knowing your Family Ocular History i.e. the story of the eyes of your family members, in simple terms. 😁 Some of us live like we are isolated humans, meanwhile, we all come from a family with a genetic and hereditary connection. And because we are connected, some things 'run' in the family bloodline, whether you agree or not, another reason blood is thicker than water. 😁 Hence, as optometrists, we often ask 'Does anyone in the family have an eye problem? Is anyone(alive or late) blind? Has anyone done an eye surgery before? Do you know if anyone has cataract or glaucoma?" Sometimes, the reply is in the affirmative. This is not a problem in itself, the problem is not to take any precaution if you have to. Some of these eye conditions are hereditary. You must arm yourself with this information to help you keep a due check on your eyes, stay in shape, and avoid preventable vision loss and blindness, especially from sight-threatening glaucoma.😓 Find out your family ocular history today, it might save you a lot of future tears. Make your faith declarations accordingly too. It shall be unto you according to your faith. 👍 Also, remember that faith without works is dead, not everything is Ogun aye(demonic influence). Knowledge is power. 🥺 Get registered at an Optometric Clinic and get your eyes checked. I presently work at Sharpview Optometric Clinic, Ibadan, and what I do, is eye care. 💜💜 Thank you! 💞 I am Dr Oluwadamilola Tanimowo. Px in Your Chair... ...during a crazy "Eye ER" day in your office yesterday... 70'ish lady...new px drove herself to come see you. Suddenly noticing double vision "one on top of the other" over the last couple weeks which seems to be worsening. Also noticing her right eye "just blurrred". 20/40 OD, 20/20 OS. Ptosis OD without the ability to elevate or abduct that eye. Pups not reliable 2/2 previous phaco. What are your top 2 differentials? And does her photo give you any clue to support or r/o your top 2 differentials? She is very emotional, at times sobbing, hoping she just needed new glasses. How did you handle her? Is any past medical or ocular history going to change what you do? What did you do with her yesterday and what did you tell her to expect? And how will YOU manage going forward? Daily insights to grow medical optometry | Optometrist | Practice Owner Follow #2020habits for content
No, soft contact lenses aren't dead in clinical practice! Well done, Jackie Garlich, O.D., F.A.A.O and Mile Brujic Listen to the new episode from Optometric Insights media to learn how opportunity still exists with soft contact lens prescribing in the #optometry practice. I enjoyed it most when Dr. Garlich described how she operates regarding her contact lens patients. How she operates is an excellent example of good 'ole comprehensive, primary care optometry. She mentioned how fitting soft contact lenses can lead to managing more #dryeye. She mentioned how important it is for her to be the primary source of education for her patients about new products and treatments. Exactly. Primary eye care is not just prescribing glasses and contact lenses. Primary eye care #optometrists believe they are responsible for all aspects of their patient's vision and eye health. That includes soft contact lenses. It also includes much more. The American Academy of Ophthalmology has a definition of "Primary Eye Care" that, I think, perfectly suits the modern #optometrist. Here are their descriptors: •Educating patients about maintaining and promoting healthy vision. ✅ •Performing a comprehensive examination of the visual system. ✅ •Screening for eye diseases and conditions affecting vision that may be asymptomatic. ✅ •Recognizing ocular manifestations of systemic diseases and systemic effects of ocular medications. ✅ •Making a differential diagnosis and definitive diagnosis for any detected abnormalities. ✅ •Performing refractions. ✅ •Fitting and prescribing optical aids, such as glasses and contact lenses. ✅ •Deciding on a treatment plan and treating patients' eye care needs with appropriate therapies. ✅ •Counseling and educating patients about their eye disease conditions. ✅ •Recognizing and managing local and systemic effects of drug therapy. ✅ •Determining when to triage patients for more specialized care and referring to specialists as needed and appropriate. ✅ •Coordinating care with other physicians involved in the patient's overall medical management. ✅ •Performing surgery when necessary. ✅ Sure sounds like a great fit, eh? 🤔 Keep preaching, Dr. Garlich! 👏 👏 https://lnkd.in/gBxmfGvi EyeCode Education #eyecare #eye #optometrystudent #contactlenses
