"These coral reefs have been protecting us against storm surges, protecting us against flooding." Small Island Developing States are home to 65 million people around the world and a remarkable amount of biodiversity 🪸 These nations are responsible for less than 1% of greenhouse gas emissions, but they are disproportionately impacted by the changing climate, leaving them vulnerable to natural disasters and debt. As Marine Scientist Dr. Deborah Brosnan explains, nature-based solutions could hold the key to environmental and financial resilience. With governments, the hospitality industry, and local communities all working together, we can restore marine ecosystems and foster a vibrant blue economy. This month at RE:TV we're diving into the topic of regenerating oceans. To learn more about investing in Small Island Developing States, watch the extended interview with Dr. Brosnan on our newly launched hub: https://lnkd.in/euunPumQ

Protected areas are at the core of efforts towards conserving nature and the services it provides us – food, clean water supply, medicines and protection from the impacts of natural disasters. Their role in helping mitigate and adapt to climate change is also increasingly recognised; it has been estimated that the global network of protected areas stores at least 15% of terrestrial carbon (IUCN). Forest protected areas help conserve ecosystems that provide habitat, shelter, food, raw materials, genetic materials, a barrier against disasters, a stable source of resources and many other ecosystem goods and services – and thus can have an important role in helping species, people and countries adapt to climate change. By virtue of their protective status, these forests should remain free from destructive human intervention. They can thus continue to serve as a natural storehouse of goods and services into the future (FAO).

Today is #InternationalClimateActionDay! At the Cape Parrot Project, we’ve spent the last decade bringing South Africa’s indigenous forests back to life—restoring forests in the Amathole region - forests that provide critical habitat for the endangered Cape Parrot and act as natural buffers against climate change and natural disasters. 🌍🌳 By replacing invasive species with thousands of indigenous plants, we’re not only creating thriving ecosystems where the Cape Parrot and other species can flourish, we’re also boosting our environment's carbon-sink power. Forest restoration is key to climate action. AMAZON , Don’t destroy AMAZON Our forests are disappearing at an alarming rate. Over the past few decades, we've witnessed the devastating impact of deforestation, with millions of acres of lush, vibrant ecosystems being cleared for various purposes. This alarming trend not only destroys the natural habitats of countless species but also contributes to climate change, soil erosion, and the disruption of vital water cycles. It's time we take action to protect and restore our precious forests and oceans and finally Earth before it's too late. NATO or other Organizations are also responsible for protecting our forests and oceans and all humanity with peace . They should respect to all thoughts without considering racism and finally developing to keep our planet Earth . We have no other place to live as alternative except Earth . Let’s young leaders control future of our planet. NATO and Organization are responsible to bring peace not to manufacturing war guns and tools . We are all in one ship . Please don’t make hole our ship .
On the boundary between land and sea, mangrove ecosystems are key to reducing the impacts of the climate crisis and extreme weather events by providing protection from storms, tsunamis and sea level rise. Mangroves safeguard millions of people living in coastal communities and provide habitats for marine species. Yet, they are disappearing at an alarming rate. All of us can take #ClimateAction and help preserve mangroves by understanding what is driving their loss, making sustainable choices and helping spread the word about their benefits. On Friday's Mangrove Day, join UNESCO in calling for urgent action to protect these extraordinary ecosystems. https://lnkd.in/e5nw-R6E

It's part of every day of our lives and yet it still inspires awe. We're talking about fresh water. 💧 Freshwater ecosystems cover just 1% of the planet, yet they are home to almost 10% of all animals and 50% of all fish. From allowing us to grow food to helping us be more resilient to climate change, fresh water helps make life on Earth possible. Yet freshwater habitats are some of the most imperiled habitats in the world—putting both people and nature at risk. 💦 As part of our 2030 goals, The Nature Conservancy aims to conserve 1 million kilometers of river systems and 30 million hectares of lakes and wetlands—benefiting over 10 million people across the globe. 🌍Today, as we celebrate World Environment Day, let us direct our attention towards the pressing issues of land restoration, desertification, and drought resilience. Land restoration plays a pivotal role in reversing environmental degradation and revitalizing ecosystems. Additionally, in the face of increasing climate variability, developing drought resilience becomes imperative. By embracing sustainable land management practices, we can actively contribute to land restoration, combat desertification, and bolster our ability to withstand droughts. On this World Environment Day, let us make a commitment to safeguard and restore our lands. Together, we have the power to create a sustainable and resilient future for everyone. 🌿💪 #WorldEnvironmentDay #LandRestoration #Desertification #DroughtResilience #GenerationRestoration

#Mangroves are key ecosystems and they need to be protected! They have an important role in flood resilience for example, which reminds us of our project Flood Stopping! 🌊 🌧 ☔ If you want to learn more about flood resiliency and access some amazing didactic materials check out the project's website (link in comments 👇 ) #ErasmusPlus #ClimateChange #Education #DidacticMaterials

🌡️ Record Heat Stress Threatens Our Coral Reefs In my 25 years living in the #Caribbean, I’ve never felt such warm ocean temperatures…🥵 🪸 Our coral reefs are facing the worst bleaching event ever due to extreme water temperatures across the region. The heat stress is expected to persist until November, putting vital #coralreef ecosystems in grave danger ⚠️ 🚨 This isn’t just a marine crisis—it’s a wake-up call for all of us. Coral reefs are critical to marine biodiversity and support the livelihoods of millions. If we don’t act now, the impact will be devastating 🙏🏽 📊 Learn more in the latest report from Caribbean Coral Reef Watch and join us in protecting our reefs 🌊 #ClimateEmergency #CaribbeanReefs #MarineConservation #SustainableFuture #WakeUpCall #ProtectOurPlanet

Happy #WorldWaterDay! As climate change drives rising seas, its impacts are unevenly distributed across Bay Area communities. If we adopt an "every community for itself" mentality, we risk catastrophic consequences, unintentional flooding of our neighbors, loss of invaluable coastal habitats, and missed opportunities for shared solutions. The San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission’s (BCDC) collaborative approach to the Regional Shoreline Adaptation Plan (RSAP) acknowledges the unique vulnerabilities of different regions across the Bay Area and seeks to address the question: How do we adapt to sea level rise in a way that benefits the Bay Area’s current residents and future generations?
