Just finished "The Almanack of Naval Ravikant: by Eric Jorgenson, and it's a must-read for anyone in their 20s! Naval Ravikant's wisdom shines through in this Q&A format book. Here are some key takeaways: 1. Seek wealth, not money or status. 2. Become the best in the world at what you do. 3. All returns in life come from compound interest. 4. Intentions don’t matter, actions do. 5. The only way to truly learn is by doing. 6. Praise specifically, criticize generally. 7. If you can’t decide, the answer is No. 8. This law is holding you back from your full potential. Parkinson's law (and how to escape it): In 1955, British Naval historian and author Cyril Northcote coined Parkinson’s law. He showed that the British Naval bureaucracy grew even when the navy it served was shrinking after WW1. The law states that "Work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion". I normally don’t recommend anything in absolutes, but I’ll make an exception here: Every single transitioning service-member should read this book before they ETS. It’s not tactical like the usual recommended reads… (“do this, and you’ll get this result”) rather, it’ll challenge your preconceived ideas about work in a way you probably haven’t considered. Naval so eloquently explains how to look at work, how to more efficiently align yourself to attain the outcomes we all want, and how to do all this in a fulfilling way. An absolute goldmine of wisdom.
