As economies and communities mature it is inevitable that atittudes will change. The rapid rise and dominance of technology in all aspects of our lives have made life more conveniennt while creating a growing gap of understanding in how technology is being used to uplift the country. Singapore has always enjoy benevolent public leaders since our independence but with the growing turmoil in global geopolitics and the increased awareness of the destructiveness of misuse of centralised power, more Singaporeans are growing concern on the role of government for their future well-being. It is from that angle, in my opinion that leaders who are given the privellege to lead others need to aware of their responsiblities and to communicate better with the public. Public solutions need to be seen to contextualised and empathy need to be applied with the understand that homogenous (base-line) treatment of public challenges are not longer sufficient (an example will be the SimplyGo pushback recently). I do think it has many parallels with the advocacy for sustainability and the challenges we face today. From the surface, even the most well-meaning sustainability advocate can only understand averages from statistics and surveys but will only fully appreciate and understand the nuances of the challenge when we interact with all stakeholders to understand from a qualitative level. And most importantly, if behaviour modifications is necessary from the general public, the reasons and long-term visions behind it need to be carefully articulated from a "greater good" point of view as well as how it impacts individuals and how one can mitigate the adoption challenges. This way, the public will provide better feedback to help authorities do their work better and nuances to the challenge better revealed. It will always be a challenge to raise awareness and action from the public. We may not solve everyone's problems but based on Pareto principle, we seek to be the tide that raise all boats (80%) and communicate our intentions and its long-term effects much better. The public deserves to know in an economy awashed with information overload - clarity and intent is a badge of honor. Myt 2 cents. #publiccommunications #intent #goodgovernance #change #empathy #impact #doinggood #vision #contextualisation #sustainability #technology

Investors looking to invest excess cash heard at this year’s flagship #AsiaInvestmentSummit in Singapore about the importance of navigating the megatrends reshaping the global economy, and of managing the hype in sectors like healthcare and technology. Julie Koo Koo from Citi Global Wealth Investments sees longevity, digitalisation, energy transition and the rise of Asia as key themes offering potential investment opportunities over time. More specifically in technology, Richard Clode, our Portfolio Manager, identified generative artificial intelligence (gen AI) as a way to deliver significant growth in the coming years. “We will see a slew of entrepreneurs who will experiment with gen AI in ways we cannot imagine today,” added Frank Lin from Google. In the healthcare space, there are compelling opportunities in both good and bad markets. “Healthcare is an area where a team which understands the science and the business, can potentially outperform benchmarks on a consistent basis,” believes Andy Acker, our Portfolio Manager. This week I’m in Davos for the annual meeting of the @World Economic Forum. It’s been a great start to the week, and I’m looking forward to listening, learning, and contributing to the dialogue – especially around the theme of “rebuilding trust” and, of course, all things AI. In support of this week’s discussions, we just published the Global Cooperation Barometer with WEF, which measures the current state of global cooperation along five pillars including innovation & tech. Global cooperation in innovation and technology advanced significantly from 2012 to 2020, likely aided by the shift toward digital services, cloud computing and applied AI. But since the pandemic, trends have become mixed. On one hand, remote working supported continued growth in cross-border data flows and IT services growth. On the other hand, perceived risks to national security have also contributed to deceleration, with the race to lead frontier technology development resulting in limitations on semis and restrictions on key markets like social media platforms and 5G network technologies. This week, global leaders have an opportunity to address critical areas of cooperation, including cross-border collaboration and approach to regulation of frontier technologies including gen AI. You can read the full report here (https://lnkd.in/grWpwmw6) or learn more about this and other key discussion themes at our McKinsey–WEF web page: https://lnkd.in/gcfX3XRb
