Are you sure your EVs are utilised efficiently? | Partnerships Manager @ Volteum | Fleet optimization for electric cars and vans
💡 "Electrifying emergency service vehicles is impossible!" 🚨 - I've heard this sentence multiple times. Will South Pasadena's all-Tesla police fleet shatter this myth? The truth is, it all depends on the usage patterns of the vehicles, and not on the industry it operates in. Per their calculations, the Police Department will save a total of $400,000 during the planned 10 years of service. However the most important aspect of electrifying emergency service vehicles is not cost savings, but the operational excellence. If vehicle usage patterns are not analyzed accurately, no matter the chosen EV model, it might fail. Do you think the South Pasadena Police Department will be satisfied with their purchase? Let me know in the comments! Ps.: Curious if your fleet is ready to make the switch? The Volteum solutions can help you evaluate the real cost-saving opportunities and operational feasibility of electrification, vehicle-by-vehicle. To get in touch, just send me a DM.

Experienced Fire Marshal | Strategic Planner | Community Safety Advocate | Podcast Host | Promoting Fire Prevention & Risk Reduction | #FireMarshal #StrategicPlanner #CommunitySafety #PodcastHost
The article from king5.com describes an incident where an electric vehicle (EV), specifically a Hummer, caught fire three times after being involved in a hit-and-run crash. The fire reignited even after being put out initially and once more when the vehicle was on a tow truck. In light of recent EV fire and comprehensive research, it's imperative to address the complex nature of lithium-ion battery technology, especially in electric vehicles (EVs). The incident involving an EV Hummer catching fire post-collision highlights the potential for lithium-ion batteries to reignite even after the initial fire is extinguished. This phenomenon is attributed to a chemical chain reaction within the battery, emphasizing the need for enhanced safety measures and awareness. Research reveals that while EVs may be less prone to fires than combustion engine vehicles, the unique challenges posed by lithium-ion batteries, including thermal runaway and fire suppression complexities, demand specialized attention. The findings suggest water mist as a promising fire suppression technique due to its cooling capabilities, although the risks of thermal runaway and subsequent reignition persist. This underscores the importance of advancing battery technology and fire safety protocols to mitigate risks. As we navigate these advancements, raising awareness and promoting safety practices among communities are crucial for reducing the risk of fire incidents and enhancing overall safety. For further insight into lithium-ion battery safety and advancements in fire suppression techniques, refer to the research published in "Energies" journal (Ghiji et al., 2020). 10 years ago, I asked my social media group a simple question regarding safety of extrication/technical rescue from electric vehicles. In 2014, the ‘hot topic’ was the emergence of EV’s and what it meant to technical rescue. Thankfully, it was starting to replace the undeployed airbags/SRS systems (non) debate. I always maintained, and still do, that we have to keep the risks in context, look beyond the headlines and educate ourselves as to the *real* implications of such technologies. Whilst EV technology offers challenges to operational personnel, it’s a challenge we will continue to overcome like we have done with many other issues historically. It’s desperately sad to report that more firefighters were electrocuted doing the ‘ice bucket challenge’ (remember that?) than have suffered injury or worse from EV technology. Risks.In.Context

Quality Expert with the strong continuous improvement skills and lean manufacturing approach.International experience with customers and suppliers worldwide.Very able to perform professional training and teaching.
Nowaday the hot one issue is EV and battery fires(where demonstrated that Is as a root cause of fire event occurred),but have you paid attention about how many vehicles(not EV or better not only) are with the defective or burnt headlights and particulary in wet season or world areas with the higher percentage of humidity(Sea zones for example)?Try to count them and surprisingly you will discover that aren't random cases.Do we still talk about the safety requirements then?Could be also something related to the working and electrical system? And if also in this case this could be the cause of fire and not the battery itself?
