💡 How Managers Can Use AI to Boost Productivity By automating mundane management tasks, AI helps managers lead Current AI systems can assist with the latter group of tasks, allowing managers to devote more time to high-value leadership tasks. Managers could, for instance, use AI to write the first drafts of reports. AI can also help with management by recalibrating roles and responsibilities to use people's time better. AIs have surprisingly good social understanding The prospect of AI reliance to help brainstorm career advice might not be as far-fetched as it sounds. One of the more surprising aspects of the current generation of AI is the ability to understand people's emotions and social behaviors. In a February 2024 study published in Frontiers in Psychology, researchers asked 180 psychology students at King Khalid University in Saudi Arabia a series of questions to test their social intelligence, then compared their answers with those from three major AI systems: ChatGPT (based on GPT-4), Google Bard (now known as Gemini), and Bing. The academics found that while Google Bard and Bing performed similarly to the psychology students, ChatGPT actually beat every single person tested. The takeaway: Managers who can effectively use AI tools will be able to spend more of their time on tasks they are actually needed for.

"Mind the AI Divide: Shaping a Global Perspective on the Future of Work" is a report by the United Nations that addresses the growing disparity in AI adoption between developed and developing countries. The report highlights the potential benefits of AI for economic growth and social progress, but it also emphasizes the risks of widening existing inequalities if developing countries lack the resources and skills necessary to leverage AI technology. Some statistics worth mentioning: 🔎 From 2008 to 2017, emerging markets (excluding China and India) received only $24 billion in venture capital for advanced technologies, compared to $694 billion attracted by the United States alone. 🔎 The United States has constructed 19 times more leading cloud and co-location data centers than India, which leads among emerging-market economies in this area. 🔎 Training OpenAI's GPT-4 required approximately $78 million in compute costs, while Google's Gemini Ultra training costs were estimated at $191 million. This illustrates the significant financial barrier faced by developing countries in AI development. 🔎 A significant proportion of workers in many developing countries lack access to computers at work, hindering their ability to leverage AI for productivity gains. For example, in 9 out of 16 developing countries analyzed, the share of workers without access to a computer at work surpasses those who do. For those interested in listening in, I used Google NotebookLM to create a podcast out of it, it did a pretty awesome job - https://lnkd.in/d4npbvUC. Is this the future of information consumption? It definitely is for people like me who love podcasts and learn by listening! 😊

Navigating the world of AI in our jobs can feel like a tightrope walk—balancing innovation with the fear of being replaced. I recently came across an insightful article that sheds light on this complex relationship. Here are some key takeaways that really stood out: - AI is becoming ubiquitous: It's not just about robots on the assembly line; AI is infiltrating every facet of our work lives. - Training is essential: Just like teaching a dog new tricks, effectively utilizing AI requires clear objectives. Start with simple tasks. By training AI incrementally, you can adapt it to your needs rather than the other way around. - Continuous feedback loop: Regularly monitoring and adjusting your AI's performance is crucial. Think of it as fine-tuning a musical instrument; it requires ongoing attention for the best results. - Maintaining human touch: While AI can handle data and automations, it lacks the soft skills we bring to the table. Empathy, creativity, and genuine human interaction are still irreplaceable. - Fun and creativity: Engaging with AI doesn't have to be dull. Experimenting, introducing humor, or creating personalized tools can transform your daily routines into enjoyable experiences. Statistics reportedly show that up to 85 million jobs may be displaced by the shift to AI by 2025, yet 97 million new roles could emerge, many of which don't even exist today. This emphasizes the importance of adaptability and learning new skills. In summary, the key takeaway is that AI isn’t out to replace us—when managed with thoughtfulness and creativity, it can become our strongest ally in the workplace. So let’s embrace this change, learn to train our AI companions, and keep our human essence alive in this tech-driven world. https://lnkd.in/eWA_JBb6

Artificial intelligence presents us with many dilemmas. Here is a great example where AI can be used to read emotions. What do you think? 🤔 #ai #masterthemoment #curlyquestions
Research Scientist Techno-Economics & Emerging Technologies | Unlocking opportunities when technology, economics and business converge
Here's an ethical dilemma for you 🤔 Artificial Intelligence (AI) is currently being trained to interpret human emotions by identifying patterns and cues in body language, facial expressions, voice, text, and speech patterns. This training is leading to a more precise understanding of emotions by AI. However, there are still several challenges to overcome before these AI systems can become adept at recognising human emotions. The primary issue is the difficulty in gathering sufficient training data to build an accurate AI model. Setting these challenges aside, there is a broader challenge. Let’s envision two scenarios five years into the future. If AI can accurately read emotions, what could this mean? Scenario 1: Imagine you’re in a meeting with several colleagues and your boss. Unbeknownst to you and your colleagues, your boss has activated an AI system designed to read human emotions and is using an earpiece to receive real-time updates on everyone’s emotional state. Scenario 2: Imagine you are a doctor in an emergency department of a hospital. Recently the number of assaults on staff has increased. The hospital installs a human emotional AI to detect the state of mind of people as the enter. The goal is to prevent assaults before they happen. Is using AI to read human emotions ethical?

I break silos and unite teams through change. I help leadership in the space of agile and digital transformation.
Impacts of AI in the workplace, insightful LinkedIn research. Some of the highlights for me were; 💡 Conversations around AI increased by 70% since last year 💡 The number of companies with a “Head of AI” position has grown by double-digits versus last year 💡 47% of roles will be Disrupted by AI (this means large portion of the skills can be replicated by AI) while 8% are predicted to be Augmented (AI will help to focus on skills/tasks that can't be replicated by AI) 💡 Not surprising women are more impacted by AI given they are over represented in administrative type work but what's sad is men are more likely to be experimenting with AI 💡 Good news is "people" skills are valued and important to complement AI-skills with Communication ranked #1 in demand non-AI skill in Australia. See research link in the comment section. Reflecting on these insights, I wonder how the profession of change management will be "Disrupted" or hopefully "Augmented" in the near future. One of my personal goals of 2024 is definitely to be using more AI on a daily basis. How do you see your role changing in the future and how are you using AI currently? Please share your thoughts and tips on the comments section. #AI #Futureofwork #changemanagement Kirstin Smith Hannah Maude Mitzi Begent Laurent Edin

Transformational Change Advocate | Thought Leader | Entrepreneurial Evangelist | Community Advocate for Social Justice |
Artificial intelligence (AI) is reshaping our lives - Dr James Mulli As you well know our current reality is fast changing. Artificial intelligence (AI) is reshaping all sectors, and this transformation will affect your current and future employment. Current Trends AI is automating repetitive and data-intensive tasks. In manufacturing, robots handle assembly line duties, while in finance, AI systems perform data entry and analysis. Job Transformation AI is not only replacing jobs but transforming them, yet some essential human elements remain irreplaceable. Job Creation AI's rise is also creating new opportunities for individuals with AI expertise and exposure. As AI continues to advance, it will both displace and generate jobs. To navigate this evolving landscape, you must remain informed and adaptable, continually updating your skills. As this technological revolution evolves how will you adapt and stay relevant? In the era of generative AI, training options related to technology have proliferated as executives and employees look to roll up their sleeves. Tech workers with generative AI skills can gain a nearly 50% salary bump compared to job seekers without them, according to an Indeed report published in February. Leaders can also capitalize on the added expertise needed to address governance gaps. Enterprises lack clear adoption roadmaps and struggle to show the value of AI projects as the technology’s usage in the workplace soars. Employees are currently more likely to focus on lower-value work if AI solutions save them time on other tasks, according to a Slack survey published this week. Employees trained in AI, however, were 19 times more likely to report that AI improved their productivity.
