QUAD is an informal strategic dialogue whose main objective is to maintain strategic balance or strategic deterrence in the Indo-Pacific region. Those who say that QUAD should be weaponized should understand that the main objective of this strategic framework remains to foster stability rather than create further instability in the region by weaponizing it. They should understand the strategic deterrence principle underlying the QUAQ agenda. It is not a Cold War-era binary structure. It is a different kind of structure adopted for different kinds of geopolitical challenges in this turbulent international system. To be successful, QUAD doesn't need to be transformed into a Cold War-era NATO-type alliance. The problem with our thinking is that we only view reality through binary terms, black and white. Due to programmed thinking, we aren't able to comprehend how the creation of different unique structures can help us address the challenges of this rapidly deteriorating international system in a better way. In short, the QUAD framework based on strategic informality is more in alignment with the current fluid and turbulent international system.
