REGISTERED VOTERS OF Hillsborough County should take notice of the County Commissioners who killed #affordablehousing in Hillsborough County. Remember Your COUNTY ELECTED OFFICIALS in the November elections since they apparently DON'T CARE how much the residents of Hillsborough County have to pay for housing. Your elected County Commissioners are bucking the trend of the entire country where nationally, there is a shortage of more than 7 million affordable homes for our nation's 10.8 million plus extremely low-income and families. Half of American renters spend more than 30 percent of their income on housing costs — a key benchmark for affordability, with the financial strain rising the fastest for middle-class tenants.
Having watched my (Hillsborough, FL) county become a leader in supporting affordable housing, how disappointing to see the Commission turn the clock back, reducing support for our trust fund and even eliminating an incentive that had been in place for 30 years. On the other hand, what a thrill to see Dayna Lazarus, AICP deliver amazing, data-based testimony that surely would have changed any minds that were even slightly open.
