𝐀𝐈 – 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐇𝐑 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬! It has been about 12-15 months since many of us finally realized, AI would be a topic to stay. Since then, we have all been on a breath-taking collective learning journey comprising trial and error, grand theses and daily practice. After more than a year of immersion, we know that HR management is being transformed by AI as we speak: by automating Recruiting, personalizing Onboarding, helping managers create customized learning journeys or coaching HR responsibles through Compliance issues. Our typical People manager nowadays, while highly aware of the strategic function of HR, is standing knee-deep in work, be it operational, regulatory, project-related, or just plain firefighting. Support by AI should be highly welcome in this scenario, but one question creates uncertainty: Will the use of AI somehow detach HR more from the people and the organizations we want to support, lead and develop? Will AI kill people orientation in HR processes? This is a crucial question. And the opposite is true. 𝗔𝗜 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝗵𝘂𝗴𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝗻𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. As an HR community, we may ask two more questions: 1️⃣ Do we have a clear picture as to what the Employee Experience (EX) is like in our organizations today? We probably do have a picture somehow, but it might be slightly murky and based on hearsay. AI will provide ample opportunities to learn more about the actual EXs out there - a breakthrough in further aligning HR with the people. 2️⃣ How sensitive are we to the relational level HR processes today? E.g. how seriously do we take breaches in operational excellence to EX – not just mistakes, but also waiting times, unclear responsibilities, impatient communication? How much time do we actually have to support employees, how often do we manage to proactively consult the business, or to actually complete strategic projects? While most lean or understaffed HR teams work their hearts out to still bring people-orientation to the table, some of them just do not stand a chance to keep up their standards in the face of their workloads. 𝗔𝗜 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗴𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗱𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆. If we want to strengthen our organizations by improving EX, by supporting the business and by exercising strategic HR work, AI will be our best friend and ally - but only if we employ it in this sense. Today, people orientation often has to be deprioritized due to a lack of resources. 𝗔𝗜 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁, 𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗘𝗫 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝘀. (Technically, it is also able to perpetuate processes that ignore the relational level of work interactions, if we choose to continue in the logic of the past.) Surprisingly: AI can make HR work more people-oriented. We do not want to miss this huge chance.
