Our new Engineering Academy opened its doors in Brisbane this week, welcoming the first new intake of apprentices. The Academy will train the next generation of aircraft engineers through an updated training program developed by Qantas and Aviation Australia designed to increase the number of apprentices that can be trained each year. The initial cohort of apprentices training this year will have the opportunity to undertake simulated practical tasks in a controlled environment that mirrors working in a hangar, alongside their theory and classroom training. As part of their training, they will also learn through on-the-job training under the supervision of experienced Qantas engineers. QantasLink have also donated its last Boeing 717 to officially retire (VH-YQW) to the Academy to allow apprentices to do part of their training on a jet aircraft. 📸: Steve Pohlner

💟This week, we have a warm interview with Sawant Samidha Satish, an aspiring female pilot with a 7-year background as a cabin crew member for an international airline. She has transitioned her dream from the cabin to the cockpit. ✈𝐖𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝟕 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐚𝐬 𝐚 𝐟𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐧𝐭, 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐭𝐨 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐟𝐭 𝐭𝐨𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 𝐩𝐢𝐥𝐨𝐭? My time as a flight attendant gave me a deep appreciation for aviation and the complexities of flight. I wanted to be more involved in-flight operations and take on a greater responsibility, so this was a natural progression. ✈𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐬𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐬 𝐚 𝐟𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐛𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐭𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐢𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐩𝐢𝐥𝐨𝐭 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠? My background as a cabin crew provided me with invaluable insights into passenger management and safety protocols. Also, as cabin crew, you work with a different set of crews every day, which means learning to adapt to a new environment every day. ✈𝐀𝐬 𝐚 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐞 𝐚𝐭 𝐁𝐀𝐀 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐕𝐢𝐞𝐭𝐧𝐚𝐦, 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐪𝐮𝐞 𝐨𝐫 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞? BAA Training offers hands-on experience with modern technology and systems and a focus on real-world applications. Additionally, working closely with experienced aviation professionals and gaining insights into industry best practices can be especially valuable. Also, the facility is open 24 hours for students to study and practice, which I feel is a big plus. ✈𝐂𝐚𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐦𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐫 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮'𝐯𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐝𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐭 𝐁𝐀𝐀 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠? Transitioning from my initial CPL days, where it was all about manual controls, to experiencing A320’s automation and advanced avionics was exciting. However, the course is a steep learning curve and requires extensive training and mastering new skills. It’s extremely challenging but equally rewarding. ✈𝐎𝐧 𝐚 𝐬𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝟏-𝟏𝟎, 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐁𝐀𝐀 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐕𝐢𝐞𝐭𝐧𝐚𝐦? Considering instructor expertise, modern training facility and the support and resources available from industry experts, I would rate BAA Training Vietnam a solid 10 and would recommend it to others. #typerating #a320 #b737ng #pilot #Pilotjob #aviation #aviationindustry #airbus

Jacksonville, Florida – January 14, 2025 – ATP Flight School marked another year of success in 2024, placing 891 graduates with regional and major airlines, as well as corporate operators. As hiring stabilized from the record highs of the post-COVID rebound, demand for ATP-trained pilots underscored the industry’s continued reliance on qualified professionals. Career Progression ATP Flight School instructors reaching 1,500 hours in 2024 continued to secure placements at regional airlines each month, benefiting from ATP’s extensive hiring partnerships and career resources. Average Time to Placement: ATP instructors averaged just over three years from the start of flight training to their first regional airline job. Regional Placements: SkyWest Airlines hired the most ATP graduates, with instructors eligible for $17,500 in tuition reimbursement through an ATP-exclusive partnership. Major Airlines: Frontier Airlines hired the most ATP graduates among major carriers, showcasing the success of the Frontier Airlines Pilot Cadet Program, which transitions instructors to First Officers at 1,500 hours after completing an intensive jet transition program at ATP JETS. Airline Partnerships: Total participation in cadet, tuition reimbursement, and airline pathway programs, including Delta Propel and United Aviate, grew 10% year-over-year. During 2024, ATP announced a new entry point into the Delta Propel Pilot Program. Through the CFI Pathway, ATP flight instructors can apply for a Qualified Job Offer (QJO) with Delta without needing prior affiliation with the airline. All legacy airlines hired ATP graduates in 2024, with the majority joining United Airlines, followed by Delta Air Lines and American Airlines. Hiring activity at American Airlines' wholly-owned carriers increased toward the end of the year, creating optimism for continued hiring momentum in 2025. Future Outlook The demand for airline pilots remains strong, driven by over 17,000 mandatory retirements projected through the end of the decade. In 2025, nearly 2,000 mandatory retirements are expected at legacy airlines. The global backlog of aircraft needing crews is anticipated to also be a significant factor, with 2025 deliveries forecast to rise to 1,802 aircraft (according to IATA). This growth underscores the critical need for qualified flight crews. Retirement data compiled from 2024 airline industry briefings. "ATP continues to work with hiring partners to provide turn-key hiring solutions to fill their pilot hiring pipelines ahead of continued growth in demand," said Michael Arnold, vice president of marketing, ATP Flight School. "ATP graduates remain well-positioned to capitalize on the best competitive offers and face excellent career prospects with multiple pathways to every major airline." ATP expects 2025 to follow the upward hiring trend, as retirements and fleet growth sustain demand for new pilots.
