Alternative BESS technologies growing in prominence 2024 looks likely to become the peak year for lithium-ion market share within BESS, set to reach 92%. In the coming years, this percentage is set to fall as alternative technologies start to be deployed at greater volumes. Sodium-ion and vanadium flow batteries are the most advanced of these alternative technologies, with activity almost entirely focused in China for now. Other technologies like zinc-flow, metal-air have potential to become prominent for longer duration, whereas technologies like zinc-ion can be used for high power applications and UPS. LiH2PO4 Vs Li2CO3 in LiFePO4 production technology Li2CO3 (Lithium Carbonate) is a compound composed of lithium ions (Li⁺) and carbonate ions (CO3²⁻). It is commonly used as a lithium source in the synthesis of cathode materials for lithium-ion batteries, including LiFePO4. Besides as lithium source, LiH2PO4 (lithium dihydrogen phosphate) may also provide cheap or even free PO4-3, depending on its availability on the market. And its Ksp solubility product is higher than Li2CO3. During the reaction, there's no carbon dioxide generated like Li2CO3 production process, making it more environment friendly. Currently, the cost of battery grade Li2CO3 has been fluctuating at the bottom levels.
