Happy New Year! 🎆 For 20 years, London's South Bank has been the backdrop to some of the UK's biggest NYE celebrations. The stretch of river owes many of its architectural centrepieces to the legacy of the 1951 Festival of Britain, a national exhibition that catalysed the development of the Southbank Centre. In this 1951 photo by Reginald Hugo De Burgh Galwey from the #RIBACollections, diners sit on the terrace of the South Bank restaurant designed by Leonard Manasseh. The chairs are the 'Antelope' model designed by Ernest Race especially for the festival. 🔎 Want to find out more about architectural history?
