"The current market is not hiring Product Management generalists." - Me Hiring Managers - help me answer a question when advising early stage PMs. Are you hiring specialists or generalists? I meet with some folks early in their Product career and when I think about how they can be the most competitive version of themselves, I advise them to focus on their "expertise" and channel it for the next role: --- if they've worked at a security company - apply to security companies --- if they've worked with B2B clients - apply to companies serving B2B clients --- if they worked at small companies - apply to small companies I just don't think in this market that anyone is open to hiring a well rounded smart candidate who can "figure it out." I have never heard this, but I had to take a look again to think about it. When choosing your job, it shouldn't be something that you loathe when you think about going in. Choose to work somewhere where you enjoy doing your job. I personally am grateful for the opportunity to work at a company where I not only love what I do but I love the people I work with! I often hear people that say they don't like what they do, or they just don't like their job and I see so many opportunities either ahead of them at the job or they have so many qualities that give them limitless options for other jobs. Don't limit yourself because you feel stuck or like you have to be somewhere! Find the job that you enjoy! When we love what we do, customers will love what we do! When we give our 100%, we will see more people and connection which will lead to more long-term relationships in the workplace with co-workers and/or customers. We create the environment we work in.
